Cranefly
Liner Notes
This might end up being a very long song. Here's a few verses to be getting on with. I'm worried that I've lifted the tune and chords from the verses from something. I know it's a generic three-chord thing, but if it's a specific song and you recognise it, PLEASE TELL ME. Thanks x

Lyrics
He always knew
He was a curious boy
Take apart his toys, see how they move
Used to watch the needle
When a record played
Maybe he could learn to dance
If he could see the groove
She used to see him
At the village hall
All arms and legs like a cranefly
But she had troubles enough
All of her own
The only break she got
Was in the disco lights
Back at school
With nowhere to hide
She picks herself up off the floor
Brushes herself down
Swallows her pride
Being young is over-rated
For sure
Over in the corner
Cranefly looks on
Like a camera set to record
Should he come over?
Is that what she wants?
"As if," he says
And heads for the door
The pessimist in me
Is looking for a lesson here
But the less we see
The more we learn
Girls grow up
Boys just get older
She puts away the toys lying on the floor
Watches the needle
As the record plays
The song fades out
And there's no more
Comments
I loved these freeze-frame images of the characters, shown to me in sharp focus at just these right times, there's enough space in the music to understand that I don't know anything about them, almost, but they seem so real.
Here is my favorite section:
"Used to watch the needle
When a record played
Maybe he could learn to dance
If he could see the groove"
I don't recognize the melody from anywhere. Terrific storytelling with strong relatability.
