Ukulele plinker. Most of what I churn out turns out to be #nerd_folk or #filk or something closely related, whether I'm intending it to or not. I think I'm okay with that :).

Otherwise, I am just doing this to amuse myself. If I amuse and/or entertain anyone else in the process, I'll consider it a win. If I generate any songs that I sing again after the challenge, I'll consider it a bigger win!

I'm not intending to throw a huge amount of time and effort into this 50/90. One or two songs per week would be nice, and maybe some of them will even end up usable. But who knows? This community is great at inspiring creativity after all!

Some of my efforts will be rubbish. Apologies in advance.

Thanks for your comment on "Chuck Taylor High Top Shoes" -- Madness would definitely be a vibe!

You're a strong man, Edwin, listening to three of my songs in a row! Thanks for stopping by for "Shadows of the Wind", "It's Only the Moon" and "Face the Dragon".
[avatar]
thanks for the definition of flat white. i had a feeling it was something like a flat-top cappucino.
[avatar]
I had the exact reverse! I didn't learn uke until a few years ago and was told "you play it like a guitar". But that was darned good especially for such a short learning time.

Hello, no, it's great. Small asidie: reading my comment back it makes no sense. What I was trying to say was "it is possible to imagine a song about someone innocently stabbing themselves in the neck with a double bass" not that I'm actually aware of a song about that.

Hi Edwin thanks for checking out a couple of songs today -the serious ‘ oops there goes my life’ and the frivolous , violet rocks’. I note the compliment re rhyming decorum. I felt compelled to share that ‘quorum’ is a rhyme, forum, ..’ but bite ‘em did come to mind easily. Then again ‘ignore ‘em’ would work! Perhaps we should have a challenge around such things ( well there have been word cloud challenges/ skirmishes in which a song blneeess to include say ten out of a random 14 words. That can work better ( for me) than apricot suggesting a theme/ topic

I thank you for the comment on "Not Just For Tea" — I felt encouraged to finish the draft. No demo yet, though.

Thanks for the spin of "Seize The Day" - the older I get the harder that feeling of having one shot at each day hits.
Enjoy this one!

Thanks for listening, and chiming in on "What u Needed" 🎵

I'm not a big PJ Harvey fanperson, and was only listening to the new album because I had to for my "album club" - but after a few listens I really like it. The words are great - heavily poetic, and leaning heavily into Cornish? West Country? dialect. Initially I was quite angry that it has a big feel of a Radiohead record circa 2005, and I thought it was just too similar in feel to something like Hail to the Thief or In Rainbows. But actually, I think that's pretty superficial - the songs are interesting, and there are some lovely tunes. There's a weird thing where a lot of the song titles and lyrics are recycled with alterations, which means I'm not sure where one song ends and the next begins - presumably a creative choice, and quite an interesting one. The standout for me is Ben Wishaw, he of Paddington Bear - who has a really lovely voice and provides a duetty, backing vocal on one or two of the songs. It annoys me when beautiful people are beautiful in even more ways than I had been expecting.

thanks for the clarification of The Ben. I have never heard a mountain called by that before. But then, ive never been to Scotland.

Just getting to your comment on "Like Beavers, Seldom Seen" -- the octave down strings are sold as “Perry’s Octave Uke Strings” online. And thanks for the comment!
[avatar]
Thanks for the comment on “Baptists and Bootleggers,” too!
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on "Ready Steady" — I’m open to it growing up metal! 😉
[avatar]
Thanks! I don’t mean to disparage the noble art of a person and their stringed instrument taking on the world- I just get very tired of my limitations very quickly and want to get back to my home and the warm embrace of my DAW and glorious, gratuitous plug ins…

Thanks for listening and commenting on We Are the Ocean, I appreciate it!

Bless you for suggesting on "Otters Floating, Holding Hands" that it might not be too long! 😅🦦

👍
Liz and I are looking forward to it too!
Thank you for your kind words on my twiddlings. I really appreciate it. 🙏
I'll stitch the whole Clouds thing into a single piece and post a link at some point. There are a few more sections to be written and recorded yet. 😉

I feel so supported by comments like yours on "Whatever Love You Leave Behind" and am glad I'm headed in a good direction on that one. I usually have this baritone strung DGBE but then heard about octave-lower GCEA strings for uke, so am testing them out. Sometimes they do sound muddy to me, but it's a cool sound to try. I do miss having a DGBE instrument, though.

I am indeed planning to be at Millcon, albeit perhaps just as a daytrip again – so harmony shenanigans may well ensue! :)
[avatar]
Well… yes… though it was purely coincidental! And you forgot to list his finest achievement… that Vimto TV ad! :-))
[avatar]
Haha - yes - my username backwards! Better late than never! Though even that’s not actually my real name - just a nickname my brothers have called me since childhood. My real name is actually Rumplestiltskin! :-))
[avatar]
Thanks so much for hearing and commenting my little uke tune. Very much appreciated!

Re: "Fish in the Percolator" -- I 'm glad there were aspects you could enjoy even without the cultural reference post of being a Twin Peaks fiend like myself. :)

Thanks for your comment on "A Child is Wrong" -- so true. Parents don't know it all and neither do our know-it-all children. ;)
[avatar]
I’m so glad to hear "Until You Say Stop" doesn’t sound much like my chord influences! Thanks for taking the time to comment.

thanks for your comment on wheel of time. i dont pay too much attentin to lyrics when listening to music. as long as they sound good and i like the singer, thats all i really ask. i find that when the lyrics are exceptionally fine, the music is pretty minimal, with its basic job being to support the words. lyrics are easier to comment on, though, because they are more tangible.

Thanks for your kind comment "Oh, Peggy" — if the dog is so cute, how could the song be totally bad?
[avatar]
Ah, thank you for your service! I can now rest a little easier tonight, knowing that MACKEREL still lives on...
[avatar]
Thanks for the cool comment on my song :)

@cts
Aha!

Hi Edwin, and thanks for your kind words on my 'Hag in the Attic' song :-) Have a great 50/90 - looks like you've made a great start already!
[avatar]
Great start Edwin!
[avatar]
"You bring it, we'll fry it" 😀

And so begins another song....
[avatar]
I like your PacMan philosophy song a lot. I'd forgotten the ghosts even had names. Look forward to hearing many more.
[avatar]
good glad that got solved :) and hi edwin over here, have a great 50/90
[avatar]
Hurrah! Yes, I really enjoyed the couple you played at that pub. I'll try to give you a listen over the coming months, though I am ultimately a bit flaky and self-involved.
[avatar]
good to see you Edwin. Have a great 50 90.
[avatar]
Happy 50/90! 😊

@gm7
I have found a few tuners in my guitar cases...but I did fine one snuggling with my old transistor radio..they were making music together...enough said.

@gm7
Your back! Good to see you here.
