Liner Notes

This is my version of the New Orleans-style version of the song.
Thank you Patty for the lyrics and challenge.

Lyrics

V1
Lots of lyrics don’t make sense
To folks who went to college
But me, I like the simple songs
Without that city polish

V2
Let me hear a heartache song
From someone who has been there
Something I can understand
From all the time I’ve spent there

Ch
Sing a song of love and loss
Let it cover me like rain
Sing a song of love and loss
The passion and the pain
Sing a song of love and loss
Let me feel my heart again

V3
Sing of how she/he lied to me
How quickly I believed it
Led me down the dappled lane
And how she/he didn’t mean it

Ch
Sing a song of love and loss
Let it cover me like rain
Sing a song of love and loss
The passion and the pain
Sing a song of love and loss
Let me feel my heart again

Br
Everything hurts
Nighttime’s the worst
Why didn’t somebody
Warn me first

Ch
Sing a song of love and loss
Let it cover me like rain
Sing a song of love and loss
The passion and the pain
Sing a song of love and loss
Let me feel my heart again

Very powerful song, beautifully written and performed. Fantastic lyrics, music, singing, playing and vision for the song. It should be in movies and on radio. Excellent collaboration. Love it.

WOW! What a collaboration! Incredible vocals (and music) and @greengrassgirl never disappoints with her lyrics. Awesome collaboration! ❤️

Jeez! What a voice from @cbmagic and a production to boot...fanfrickintastic!
Those lyrics from @greengrassgirl are perfect for this soulful, bluesy classic...👏👏👏

Awesome take on these lyrics. Great sound you've got there!

Wow! What a soulful, gut-wrenching interpretation of the words! Sharp guitar, amazing and powerful vocal. I was hoping for a guitar solo, too, and I sure got a sweet one. And that last chorus kills. Again, wow!

Dang, that chorus is the bomb! That is exactly how I imagined it should sound when I read the lyrics- actually better! What a phenomenal version. Gold standard - I love it!

Wow! this is just great. Lyrics are perfectly suited to this awesome blues riff and your
powerful vocals . I think the bridge is my favorite part. Great collaboration. Two thumbs up to the both of you.

Very dramatic with that bluesy flair. Totally enjoyed it. The lyrics are filled with emotion and the melody and vocal performance surely deliver on that! Awesome! Well done on all accounts!

I've been so disappointed that Patty's lyric intended for multiple contributors has seemingly been a secret. I'm glad that Carl found and took up the challenge, especially because the resulting song is absolutely inspired. Love the New Orleans approach!

Any other takers?

Carl, I love your "New Orleans" version of this lyric. You gave it that gravely, bluesy delivery that really brings out the angst of the lyrics. What fun to hear how different artists interpret the same lines. Thank you for diving in!

This is really fabulous! I loved the lyrics before and their delivery with a wonderful soulful slow bluesy feel is spectacular!!! Great sound!!!

This is just fabulous! smoky and slinky from the start...and that chorus just explodes musically! i love it
