Down The Dusty Road Of Heartbreak

Liner Notes

I'm going to be pretty much alternating pop and country songs, I guess. This is the first country effort. Once again, it starts with a Title and then...sometimes it goes somewhere. :-)

I'm shufflin' down this lonely road,
the sun is setting low,
Footsteps echo tales of old,
where all the lost hearts go.
In the wind that keeps a'blowing,
parched lips whisper your sweet name,
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
I'm walking through my pain.

CHORUS:
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
trees on each side giving shade,
I'm just a wandering troubadour,
I sing of love betrayed.
With every step, I taste the salt
of the tears I've come to know,
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
where only broken hearts go.

Once we danced under the moonlight,
stars as our chandelier,
Your laughter was the sweetest tune,
whispering in my ear.
Now the night is but a shroud,
hiding your warm glow,
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
with nothing left to show.

CHORUS:
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
trees on each side giving shade,
I'm just a wandering troubadour,
I sing of love betrayed.
With every step, I taste the salt
of the tears I've come to know,
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
where only broken hearts go.

These old boots, worn and tired,
scuffing against all my regrets,
The echoes of our love expired,
are all that this heart gets.
The path is long, the journey rough,
and burdened by the weight,
Of the love that wasn't strong enough,
and it's getting oh so late.

So here I am, my darling,
lost in this twilight haze,
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
where love's lost in a maze.
I'm just a shadow in the sun,
with no place left to go,
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
where only broken hearts go.

CHORUS:
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
trees on each side giving shade,
I'm just a wandering troubadour,
I sing of love betrayed.
With every step, I taste the salt
of the tears I've come to know,
DOWN THE DUSTY ROAD OF HEARTBREAK,
where only broken hearts go.

I hate that I've missed your songs. They've changed things. As always, this is choice stuff! Your performance is outstanding!

I saw the title listed on the song feed and said, "That's gotta be a country song." I got here and wasn't disappointed. Some great lines in the lyrics, too, like "stars as our chandelier".

Wow, this is good stuff. Great performance!

Brilliant title, lyrics, music, singing and playing. Love your nostalgic romantic sweet vibes, Jerry.

The lyrics definitely support the title’s melancholy, but the melody has a bounce and energy that seems almost hopeful. It’s an interesting juxtaposition! Maybe, somewhere inside, the singer knows it’s not a forever feeling.

Another winner Jerry...you can certainly come up with a top title with words to match and this one is a fine example of that...great stuff!

some nice lines and a good title... conveyed well too... way to go..

Starting from a title as good as this one, you are bound to end up with a top notch song of sadness and regret tempered by your inherent romanticism. And this is a memorable trip down that lonesome highway with some hard hitting lines and some unexpected sights such as the stars as chandeliers, its always a giveaway that the writer is a good one when they come up with an image you never heard or thought of before.

@sbs
Beach Boys do country! Love the stereo effect in headphones. Really cool! I've been doing so much heartbreak this 50/90, I'm going to have to change it up soon... very soon! lol!
