Lyrics
d - c - em
there's a church nestled at the end of the road
and the patronage , they've come and gone
the graffiti the only one left to preach the word
boarded up windows not open to fellowship
and the steeple in it slumber has to ask
who's gonna ring this bell when i'm gone
the modern god is on the face of a dollar
and the people stop and worship at her altar
d c
we have lost the way
d c
to a better day
soon the door will open
but the steeple sit in slumber
and wonders
who's gonna ring this bell when i'm gone

"The modern god is on the face of the dollar" is a great line. But I'm not sure it's a new problem. I seem to remember a story of moneychangers in the temple. I absolutely love the "when I'm gone" line and what it implies.
good question. i also wonder who is ringing the bell now to bring the church to this state. i like the music and how the repitition of the chord progression makes each vocal line stronger than the last.
