Hail, friends! Here's a collab I did with my friend Erin Hill, who insists she's not a songwriter or musician. We did a couple songwriting exercises today and I love what we came up with together!

Lyrics

How far can we take this thing and still be alive?
A glass filled with fire, sparking to life

Introduced to a whole new world
The element of surprise

I’m going to the ledge and looking down
Still thinking about that game of cat and mouse
Just wand’ring around, an ever-increasing circle
Started from the ground, no wider than a needle
I’m going to the ledge and looking down
Down, down, down, down, down

How far can we take this thing at maximum speed?
Late night panicked phone calls on empty twisted streets

Introduced to the desert blue
I don’t know what else to do

I’m going to the ledge and looking down
Still thinking about that game of cat and mouse
Just wand’ring around, an ever-increasing circle
Started from the ground, no wider than a needle
I’m going to the ledge and looking down
Down, down, down, down, down

They’re packing up the rest of the relics
And saying goodbye
These are inconsistencies typical of poetry
Seems impossible, even to my wild mind

Got me spellbound through these shadowed halls
Can we fix it before we fall?

I’m going to the ledge and looking down
Still thinking about that game of cat and mouse

I’m going to the ledge and looking down
Still thinking about that game of cat and mouse
Just wand’ring around, an ever-increasing circle
Started from the ground, no wider than a needle
I’m going to the ledge and looking down
Down, down, down, down, down
Down, down, down, down, down

I’ve got news for your friend. Definitely a songwriter. This reminds me of how I loved Dar Williams in the 1990s. That mix of clear-seeing vulnerability.

nice work! very evocative and interesting lyric, and nicely and melodically performed- alot of great musical hooks here (down down down, for one)
