The big finale of my #scifi #larp involved a meeting with the space station captain, whose only remains were their brain wired into the station computer. And so, this #filk was born.
Lyrics
Brain in a jar
Jemma Kline
When I set out on this mission, I was young and had more hair,
And my starship captain face was strong and fair,
But my crew is dead and jettisoned out through a missile tube,
So left alone with engines blown, there’s just one thing to do:
Be a brain in a jar,
A brain in a jar,
And I tell you now that life is very hard.
Be a brain in a jar,
A brain in a jar,
But at least I’ll live my life among the stars.
I was rescued by some aliens who found me floating there,
And they saved me though I couldn’t breathe their air.
So they took my skull and split it like some kind of oyster shell,
And I have to say since then it seems I’m doing rather well.
I’m a brain in a jar,
A brain in a jar,
And I tell you now that life is very hard.
I’m a brain in a jar,
A brain in a jar,
But at least I’ll live my life among the stars.
I could tell you of the mornings when I need to scratch my ear,
Or the long and lonesome evenings as the days have turned to years,
But instead, I’ll break a smile that you’ve come so very far,
For those strangers left me with a second jar.
Be a brain in a jar,
A brain in a jar,
And I tell you now that life is very hard.
Be a brain in a jar,
A brain in a jar,
But at least you’ll live your life among the stars.
