Not Enough Coffee
Skirmish: Not Enough Coffee (@scubed)Liner Notes
#acousticonetake
Waking up to a failed relationship.
Lyrics
There’s not much in the kitchen
Another wall that won’t listen
Another half empty plate
Says it’s already too late
I only ask for respect
The light is just so direct
And the floor is so dirty
I hope nobody heard me
Waking up at four thirty
It’s hard to make it feel right
And there is not enough coffee
To make up
For last night
There’s not much in the freezer
It just says I shouldn’t be here
Ice cubes for an empty glass
Why can’t I go back to the past
No amount of toast and jam
Will fill the void that I am
And then I see my reflection
I need a change of direction
Waking up at four thirty
It’s hard to make it feel right
And there is not enough coffee
To make up
For last night

This is so poignant! "Another wall that won’t listen" and "The light is just so direct" are such evocative lines. The chorus is terrific - it hints at some misfortune or misadventure but leaves the listener wondering. I like the simple guitar accompaniment - it doesn't get in the way of the lyrics. Great skirmishing - thanks for participating!
Very cool skirmishing. A pleasure to listen to. Light-hearted and fun.
That's a genius chorus, and waking up at 4.30 is brutal. This is a great take on the prompt and a lovely melody. Well skirmished!
I like the "wall that won't listen" line a lot, and the rhyming of "dirty" and "heard me." And that there's "not enough coffe to make up for last night." Really good stuff.
Sometimes there really isn't enough coffee for things that shouldn't be. Truth. Good song.
Oh, "ice cubes for an empty glass" is a great line.
Good skirmish.
Good skirmish.
Love the "Another wall that won't listen line" and the chorus - great skirmishing!
