Place In the Middle

by @lbrewington

Liner Notes

I wrote this song a few days ago and abandoned it because it was so far off the mark of what it was suppose to be. It ended up being a song about manic episodes and largely just ended up as an excuse to bang on a guitar in a very physical way which at the time seemed like a way to capture the feeling of manic episodes. After finishing my last song I decided to just throw it down in on a recording as an excuse to once again bang on the guitar in a purely physically way for some therapy, and there ending up being a few notes out the whole pile that I thought was worthy of cataloging for the future. I didn't want to spend anymore time on this so feel free to do the same or at least ignore the obvious slop.

Lyrics

em cmajor7 am

uninvited
he has the key to my front door

like an old friend
he comes and leaves his boots on the floor

and I don't know why these
sunny days just feel so wrong

em - am -em
hoping for the that place
in the middle again

em
[solo]

maniac waves here comes that good time feeling again

excited for the thoughts that will distract my brain

mouth so full that others can't get a word in

social clown
fishing for the laughs all around

[refrain]
[solo]

door bell's ringing
feeling that down time coming oin

it might be time for me
to try drinking again

feeling anxious
at the thought of fitting in

[refrain]
[solo]

hoping for the that place
in the middle again

Great refrain/chorus. So simple and satisfying. The plaintive melody, that long held note at the top of the melodic arc, is a great touch. I find this song to be pretty authentically in that alt.country/americana guy with a guitar realm.

i love the way you wail on these lyrics while keeping a steady controlled guitar rhythm. relatable the, trying to find that middle space when you are neither face down in bed nor crawling the walls.

Excellent guitar work - I love the percussive nature of the guitar and all the cool things you can do, and feelings you can replicate in the song or just work out by playing. I like the dissonant chords and the strumming interludes. Great title and writing around it also - and I like how you wrote about it in the 3rd person. Cool song.
