Wrecking Ball

by @lbrewington

Liner Notes

My daughter went to summer art camp and came home with a piece she called "Tornado of Kindness".

I was also telling her about fawm 50/90 and how I was only at 15 songs and had many more songs to write before I could get to 50 and she told me I could use some of her songs, which is unusual cause normally she demands that I don't take songwriting credits on her pieces. What a character. Anyway, she's my wrecking ball.

Roughly 2.25 hours from concept to final demo.

Lyrics

c -g - f -g [c2]

she's a tornado of kindness
waking with the stars in her eyes

cereal for breakfast she's telling me
all about her dreams

rainbows and butterflies
like only kids can know

am
but when the world is cruel
d7
and i can't go on
f -c
i take one look into her big blue eyes
g - c -am -f
then we're heading out the door to find some happy times
c - g - c
yeah she's my wrecking ball

four foot tall and full of grace
silly as the day is long

she's telling me a joke about a bannanna
that couldn't find it's skirt

when the shadows grow long
and the day is done
reading her a nighttime story again

she's gonna tear down
to the ground
telling me night
with a hug and kiss
melting my heart all over again
cause she's my wrecking ball

i'm playing guitar she's singing along
both of us outta tune

with a smile on her face
she wants to know which of us is worse

and as the laughter fades
she she has to say, you know where going be big stars

she's my wrecking ball
she's gonna tear down
every time she's coming around
turning my frown upside down
cause she's my wrecking ball

f - g - c
she's my wrecking ball

Very cool, sweet song. The double vocal works really well. Good job!

What a cool word pairing - "tornado of kindness" - kids give us such great stuff - I love their fresh perspective. I really feel the love of a father in this song - and how special that father daughter bond is. How wonderful you can share music together. I like how you used the title line in your song also - both melodically and lyrically - very impactful.

I love this! It's so charming and sweet and full of great lyrics. The way you turn the idea of a wrecking ball on its head is so effective. The banana/skirt line is my favorite too. SO great.

Love that vocal doubling in the chorus, so fun! This song is utterly charming. I appreciate the down to earth style of this with sparse rhymes. I LOVE the line "I'm playing the guitar, she's singing along, both of us outta tune." What a beautiful glimpse into a cheerful slice of life.

What a sweet tribute to your daughter. I like the imagery of the wrecking ball and tornado of kindness. The slightly destructive joy of children lol

So so sweet. I love the line about the banana that can’t find its skirt. Love the characterization in this.
