Happy Tuesday, 50/90ers! I wanted to write a response song to OneRepublic's "Forgot About You." Much of this song is bits and pieces from my real life.

Lyrics

If you must know, I’ve forgotten all about you
Tearing down the doors in my heart that you walked through
All my friends agree with me that seven months of therapy
And dyeing my hair blue
Did the trick to help me quit that quid pro quo relationship
And move on from you

But I

Still have dreams that I’m back in your apartment
Before the fights started, before it fell apart with both of us in it
I can give the runaround, but once the sun starts going down, it’s all over for me
‘Cause I still have dreams
That make me wonder if I was wrong to leave

If you must know, I deleted all our photos
Threw away the roses you gave me at my first show
I did what as responsible, I had to call an audible without you in my ear
The the bull out from the China shop ‘cause otherwise he’ll never stop
Until the water runs clear

And I

Still have dreams that I’m back in your apartment
Before the fights started, before it fell apart with both of us in it
I can give the runaround, but once the sun starts going down, it’s all over for me
‘Cause I still have dreams
That make me wonder if I was wrong

To leave you in the dead of night
Leave the ring on the bedside table
You always said we’ be alright
But I, I was so unstable

And all my friends agree with me that leaving was the only thing that I could’ve done

But I

Still have dreams that I’m back in your apartment
Before the fights started, before it fell apart with both of us in it
I can give the runaround, but once the sun starts going down, it’s all over for me
'Cause I still have dreams
I still have dreams
That make me wonder if I was wrong
To leave

You're the whole package! I always love your songs. The playing on this has a percussive force while not getting to "angry," and I like how it softens on the beginning of the chorus. Terrific sense of rhythm to go with your melodies. "If you must know" is a great lyric to use as a verse transition each time.

I was really struck by the range of emotions and feelings expressed in the chorus sections. They felt like little mini songs of their own, with their own buildup and peak and pensive resolution.
Lyrically, I think my favorite detail was about the roses. That really connected with me.
Just a fantastic song!

Class lyric and it just flows out! I am sure it helps that it so much like a fav of mine Missy Higgins. One of the best I have heard for a while!

Wow! It’s so good to hear your voice again. I love so much about this. I was particularly struck by the way he breathless, jammed in rhythm of the first section and “all my friends agree with me” opens up later into the phrase “makes me wonder if I was wrong”. I start the song with the feeling “you go, girl, you don’t need him” and end it with a feeling that maybe we-the group of friends - were too quick to agree with he singer. There’s this whole possibility that opens up of leaving something good because we’re too tangled up ourselves, not because there’s anything wrong with the other person. I like that the song holds space for a lot of possibilities and I’ll be singing “all my friends agree with me” for weeks.

fantastic lyrics and the phrasing of them is exciting. i love the way you use a variety of rhythms to keep the movement unpredictable.
