Love After Death
Skirmish: Horror (@atornberg)Liner Notes
“Love After Death” - #fawm 50/90 2024 original song 18
New notes: Now with video demo!
I wouldn’t say the melody is 100% set, and I’m still playing with rhythms, but I had a lot of fun putting this to music and even more fun recording it. I couldn’t wait to share it.

Original notes:
The skirmish prompt “horror” gave me the perfect chance to try writing a #horrorcountry song. I’m not sure if it’s horror enough or country enough, but I wanted to break the seal (for me) on this genre. I went more vintage, cowboy country than modern.
30 minute write. Looking forward to setting it to music, which I won’t try to do now, since I came to the skirmish 15 minutes late and also I am visiting folks.
Lyrics
In the evening’ when your darlin’
Comes a-wanderin’ to your gate
But your backyard is a graveyard
It might do you good to wait
In case she’s turned,
In case she’s bit
In case her thoughts have turned to blood
Most likely you’re the one her
Lustful urges hunger for
The one she’s dreaming of…
Is there love after death
When your baby’s gone bad
And she’s lurking at midnight
But you aren’t that glad
Cause you don’t know just where
Or to which and what ends
Or if the end’s yours
Her presence portends…?
When the shadows get too spooky
You sleep armed with cross and prayer
But she knows just how to get you
And she knows just where
So if it’s dusk
if it is night,
Maybe don’t turn out the light
In case she’s crossed the threshold
To stand in the corridor,
A lost and lovely blight…
Oohoohoohooohoohoooh
Now how she moves sends a chill down your spine
Cause of how hers is angled most all of the time
Her bones do not like shifting out of a crouch,
The crawl is now coming from inside the house
And she gets on all ]fours to advance through the doors,
That scraping’s her nails on the floors…
CHORUS
Oohoohoohooohoohoooh

(BTW you might like the book "Lone Women" by Victor LaValle, it's a country western horror!)
This is soooo creepy! I'm really excited to hear how you put it to music. I can't believe you did all this in an hour!
Delicious idea for a lyric around such a question, where love and nonexistence is concerned. Clever how you brought all this together in song with eerie cadence and bleak (though effectively ever-so-slight country tweaked gold) play. Dug the breath of life you infused within and how those word schemes ran so uniquely that they actually speak universal by way of that age-old question, re: in the after of death and love. Cool misty-fog vid effect, too, further sets and enhances tone and mood for this creation.
