A very old (one of the very first songs I ever wrote) one of mine that had only been done as an acoustic, live 1+1. A musician friend on the Muse Songwriters site liked it and wanted to take it further, so I tweaked the lyrics some and we completely re-recorded it with really lovely music he came up with. It's this slow because originally, we had this idea of doing something in an incongruous combo of styles--sort of lo-fi hip-hop with some country flavor to it. Didn't quite hit that mark exactly, but it's something or other.

These Things
Lyrics - Jeff Walker
Music - Jeff Walker & Michael M

Never look at a tree
And see any old tree
Every one of them one of a kind
The rings in the middle
The veins in the leaves
With a story in every line

Never look at a girl
And see only a girl
Every one has a light of her own
And a head full of dreams
Nobody can share
Without loving her right down to the bone

The closer you look
The more you reveal
Don’t doubt for a minute
They’re perfectly real
These things that you see
These things that you feel

Never listen to music
And hear only a song
Every note carries color and light
The rhythm that pulses
Along with your heart
And you fly when the rhymes come out right

It may seem a little like prayer
When it comes
Your own soul glimmering through
It’s then when you feel
Your place in the world
And a piece of the world inside you

The closer you look
The more you reveal
Don’t doubt for a minute
They’re perfectly real
These things that you see
These things that you feel

Jeff is too modest to tell you, but this song made the podium in the Muse Songwriters contest. Congratulations, Jeff and Mike.

Jeff, these lyrics are sublime. Glad you didn't let this one sit on the shelf. Your collab with Mike's music is gorgeous.

I love revisiting old fawm/5090 songs that haven’t quite reached their full potential. This is beautifully produced. Such nice unusual sounds for the backing of The soothing country feel vocals. Lovely collaboration
