Liner Notes

I dunno if I'm going to record demos this go around. But it feels weird to just leave this in my notepad doc. So here you go!

Lyrics

coasting down the 405
try to remember what keeps me alive
feeling the rote pulse beat
of my heart in overdrive

somehow it's a grievous sin
to bury the thing you didn't begin
caught in calamitous heat
with a shit-eating grin

and there was a package
awaiting at my door
opened it up
wished it was something more

is it a sign?
that i left it all behind?
the future is never
silver-lined

capricious in my everyday
mother once said that i'm wasting away
'least i'm wasting the way
that i wanna waste today

daddy never spoke a word
not even sure if he even heard
the squeak of the front door hinge
as i left him, undeterred

and there was a package
awaiting at my door
left it to sit there, cause
it's not mine, it's yours

is it a sign?
that i left it all behind?
the future is never
silver-lined

oh is it a sign?
or just a cavern, over-mined?
the future is never
silver-lined

I like the way the first two lines of the verses feel like they cascade down, down, down in a rush - then the third line opens up and stops. Then the chorus goes slow and wide.

Really interesting lyrics. They tell a story or set a scene while still being someone opaque. Lots of good lines here (silver ones?). I like the recurring motif of the package at the door.

good storytelling and that second verse really hammers it with great cadence and flow.

Really clever rhyme scheme, and I love the cadence and flow of this.
