Just Do It

by @lbrewington

Liner Notes

This song was originally going to be an entry for the SongSidekick Song Circle challenge for a repeating line, and it does repeat a line quite a bit, but ultimately decided it wasn't repeating enough and wrote another song for that challenge. However, wanted to finish this song as my FAWM 50/90 2024 pump up song. Time to put aside the excuses and just do it.

Lyrics

em em

a c d em

sitting on this lip of a plane
trying to find a way to walk away
if i wanna feel the wind
i'm gonna jump in
so go ahead boy and just do it

you gotta get up to get down
what's the use of sitting around
if you wanna rock and roll
and you feel in your soul
then go ahead boy and just do it

b7 c
winds of change are howling
a c
inviting me into the swirl
a
this is the best time
c
for catching a cool vibe
d em
so go ahead boy and just do it

indecision is just failure
the mirror reflects no other
if you wanna win today
then you gonna have to play
then go ahead boy and just do it

if you want to be a kingly hero
with all the monuments and spoil
run into a field
free all your all sins
go ahead boy and just do it

b7 c
winds of change are howling
a c
inviting me into the swirl
a
this is the best time
c
for catching a cool vibe
d em
so go ahead boy and just do it

"Go ahead boy and just do it" is a really cool hook that you have at the ends of the verses and choruses. It really grounds the song. Well done :)

I also liked the juxtaposition of the usually bright "just do it!" phrase with a darker sounding song, it really adds interest and intrigue to it. There's a sense of risk and foreboding. I thought the refrain was catchy, invites to sing along!

I like how it's both a pump-up exhortation song but also has a kind of dark and moody vibe; it feels like we're mired in the folksy dirt and grit, but through determination will pull through (as opposed to a synth-heavy sports jam, for example). The song definitely has an impassioned, emotional feel that's very inspiring!

Great vocal here, the percussive quality of the delivery on the repeated line is really effective. Nice chorus, really well put together. Enjoyed this a lot
