Liner Notes

Another opportunity to collaborate with the prolific and always creative @mctown and @vaughan - They sent me this lyric with the thought that a jazz approach would fit the words, and I was happy to oblige with a bluesy treatment of their positive message about growing up but not growing old. So relevant to my own journey past middle age. #jazz #blues #guywithpiano

Lyrics

After all the living you have done
You're still just like yourself when you were young
The body may look different
The brain remains the same
Why would you drop out and quit the game?

[chorus]
Don't act your age
Age your act
It's time to step on up
And not look back
Be the best version of you
Ain't nothin' wrong with that
Don't act your age
Age your act

Don't give in and get to feeling old
The wisdom in your head is solid gold
You learned from your adventures
You've wised up on the way
Why not hustle up and start to play?

[chorus]

[bridge]
Quincy Jones keeps moving on and never skips a beat
Brady keeps his eye on every ball
They know how to age their act
Like Jordan and LeBron
And how 'bout Dolly Parton?
I think she's just startin' ...

[solo]
[chorus]

I'm loving the advice (and the performance that carries it). As one of the older citizens of the 5090 adventure, I'm ignoring age and striving to continue to create. So thank you to the three creators of this good musical wisdom and encouragement.

I'm laughing because I loved this! The lyrics are so charming and I love your piano riffs. And thanks so much for the lead sheet. My jazz group may want to try this out.

ha, I love this! the lyric is on target and really incisive and what a great title pun... (wish I had thought of it!) and the jazzy approach is just perfect, as is the conversational singing.... I love everything about this! fantastic!

Love the musical vibe that's almost like being in a magical land where Mose Allison is tickling the keys for a singer who's an upgraded version of Shel Silverstein. A really clever lyrics by the lads that is perfectly conceived and executed here in this style. Pro stuff.

Nice work, you two...

Great interplay between voice and piano. Love the solo, laid back and keeping in style for the song.
