Charred Embers

Skirmish: Charred remains (@atornberg)Liner Notes
A lot of skirmishes have been held too late for me to participate, not so much due to the time zone differences, but more because my neighbours impose a "No Music after 10pm" ban on our block.
But in the morning when I saw the prompt, I liked it and I wrote some lyrics, but didn't post them until I had a melody I was reasonably happy with.
The inspiration is a fictionalised account of one of my disastrous relationships when I was young. Of which I had too many.
Instrument: Baritone Ukulele strung to allow GCEA tuning.

Lyrics
A (Dm) summer romance turned to something firm
The (Gm) next two years our love affirmed
But (Dm) there was a worm deep in the bud
And our (Gm) clarity turned to mud
(C) Losses began to outweigh gains
As (Gm) poison seeped into our veins
We (F) both lost sight of our initial aims
And fell (Eb) victims to senseless (Gm) games
(Gm) I'm raking over charred embers
Of a (F) flame once bright and strong
(Gm) Raking over charred embers
Asking (C) how it all went wrong
Re(Bb)membering the (F) torment
(C) That you put us through
Re(Gm)living scenes forgotten
From a pers(F)pective that is (Gm) new
How (Dm) quickly gold can lose its shine
(Gm) When reduced to yours and mine
I (Dm) couldn't care less about who got what
But you (Gm) wanted the jackpot
You (C) went your way, I dived within
My (Gm) friends said "take it on the chin"
Some (F) other sap you soon seduced
While (Eb) I became a re(Gm)cluse
CHORUS
I'm (Dm) slowly coming out my shell
I've (Gm) left behind that living hell
(Dm) Meditation's helped me cope
I'm no (Gm) longer that bitter bloke
(C) I still value the golden days
Before (Gm) life with you became a maze
I (F) don't feel down, I don't feel blue
The (Eb) truth is I am over (Gm) you
