VOYAGE 10: THE DEEP
#instrumental #classical #slow #somber

9,290 metres. 30, 480 feet. The ship is over the Tonga Trench, only a few dozen nautical miles north of its deepest point. It's over 9 kilometres to the bottom. Nearly 6 miles down to where the Pacific Plate is being eaten, drawn into the lithosphere, no doubt to the delight of the multitude of roundworms living so unimaginably deep, under almost inconceivable pressure, in a darkness only matched by the deepest mine. This trench, the deepest in the Southern Hemisphere, is second only to the Mariana Trench. And humans only found out about it (the Horizon Deep) in 1952. Then forgot--at least we were never told! No mention on the ship activities either. We guess that the notion of floating in an oversize condo with nothing under one for 6 miles isn't conducive to passenger ease. What an amazing world we live on.

You've captured the feel of that deep ocean so well. Love the really low notes. And I also love the description of the Tonga Trench that you've given in the liner notes. Wish I was out on that sea ... provided it was relatively calm!

Ominous, and then not so much! It's lovely, it took into that deep place. Very nice, Tim.

Such a tone poem. I get the layers of the deep feeling from this.

This is so deliciously dark and brooding! I really love the depth and dynamics you bring to it! So full of pensive emotion with some glimpses of serenity and resolution.

I'm one of those people who can't swim far out to sea because I can't stand the feeling!
These sea depths are unimaginable!
You capture the darkness and the cold with your tones. Loneliness also resonates.
And yet it is a very beautiful piece!

those deep, thick bass notes are ominous.their overtones undershadow the light movements above.

The liner made me uneasy. I don’t play that deep water crap. I’m from Indiana…landlocked and loving it. The tune really captures the vibe you’ve presented. Wonder, horror, beauty, melancholy, hope, it all comes across in sections. Wonderful
