Deadlines

Liner Notes
This is a song about deadlines, so I called it Deadlines. I try to be creative as a hobby, which is nice when there's no pressure, so I'm always impressed by people who need to be creative to a schedule for a living. People producing daily comic strips, say, or TV and Radio scripts.
You might spot a Douglas Adams reference here, and the last verse is dedicated to the songwriters churning out the hits in the Brill Building.
With apologies and/or thanks to @burrsettles for the "driving the train while laying out the tracks" lyric.
I used my 8 string baritone #ukulele here, and overdubbed a tenor uke. Also an outing for my B9 organ pedal, which is my new favourite toy. I'm calling this #nerd_folk just for the use of the word "doomscrolling". #fuc
Lyrics
Doomscrolling through the morning news
Have a pot of coffee and a cheeky snooze
Gossiping about the match, who should have won,
Trying not to think about the work that's to be done
But there's pressure from the boss no time to waste,
He needs that report by end of day
Better have it on his desk by 5PM
Then come back tomorrow and do it all again
There's always a deadline, no time to relax,
Always a problem, always time to act
When they're driving the train while you're laying out the tracks
There's no end of the deadlines
Finish the script, I don't care how
The show is going out in half an hour
And when you're done, get cracking on the next
A broadcast every night, there's no time for a rest
There's always a deadline, no time to relax,
Enjoy the whooshing sound that it makes as it flies past,
When they're driving the train while you're laying out the tracks
There's no end of the deadlines
Look out, you're going to be late
Time is passing at its usual rate
We need another song before tonight
We're making a new hit, get on and write
So grab your notebook and tune your guitar
Get to your cupboard and make someone else a star
There's always a deadline, no time to relax,
Always more to write, always one more task,
When they're driving the train while you're laying out the tracks
There's no end of the deadlines
When they're driving the train while you're laying out the tracks
There's no end of the deadlines
No end of the deadlines
