Sloths at the Bazaar

by @beacon

Liner Notes

Okay, I was inspired by the #slothcore thread, and having never done slothcore before, and it being a relatively new genre, I figured I had nothing to lose. Getting a little more confident in throwing caution to the wind, I just loaded up the loops and stuff in GarageBand again, set the beat to 36, and see what I could come up with. As I found the Afghanistan Sand Rebab as one of the loops, this sort of sounded like it would come from that part of the world, hence the bazaar.

Hope the nap is long enough!

My thanks to @candle and @elesimo for their encouraging me to venture into this!

A bazaar can be a mysterious and sometimes dangerous place. Shady business transacted in dark corners. A wild mix of colors and motion. Best to keep one's eye out just in case.

@jeff9

Chock full of interesting sonics and highly entertaining. I'm not familiar with the "Slothcore" concept, but if this is it, I'll dig in.

Clearly, I gotta get out more.

#slothcore is where it's at. This is great—the genre as applied to a Bond movie soundtrack, even. Drama and tension, but also naps. I'm really digging the sound design throughout this. Big production values, lots of really great touches, shifts of mood that fit perfectly and a strong theme that returns several times. Really like this a lot!

The quavering bazaar patch reminds me of something and my memory's gone...sigh..I've become slothful.... This sounds a lot of fun, complete with nap.

I was just reading through the slothcore messages in the forums. I have never experimented with this sound either! I'm digging the loop and Bazaar imagery. This is really cool, Ken!

Slothcore is a fun idea! And it's always nice to be able to have a nap in the middle of a tune. I like the way it builds up again after the siesta - it's remarkably intense for 36 bpm. Very nicely put together.

[avatar]

Wow, this is intense! It keeps moving between the world's slowest rave and the world's slowest-speed chase through a bazaar and feels very Bollywood. Then all the performers just stop and nap. An excellent contribution to the slothcore genre.

[avatar]

No nap here, there's plenty of dynamic variety to keep me interested. It's like being at the world's slowest rave. Which isn't a bad thing. This is cool!

[avatar]

Im envisioning the world's slowest-speed chase through a bazaar and I love it. Well done and congrats on breaking into new genres!

@fuzzy

Well everyone should do a Slothcore track!!
Great Eastern sound here; old sounding and new sounding at the same time.
Love that ending.

@candle

Sloths at the Bazaar for sure. I wonder what they would buy? Oh, that nap is perfectly placed. I love how you lead into it with a couple of snare hits. That sort of builds an expectation of something coming, but then you get the nap. It's a great twist! This is an awesome entry into the #slothcore genre. I've always loved middle eastern sounding scales (probably why I fall back on them a lot in my own playing), so this was really up my alley. Well done Ken & you're welcome 😀

@pifie

I love how off-guard the silence gets you. In this times of over-information, constant updates and fear of missing out, I can't think of anything more punk.

Plus, it's nice that it's a 'danceable' track this slow, and at 2:47, the shaker sounds like cumbia! But definitely one of the slowest and most electronic cumbias I've heard

[avatar]

I never realised how scary sloths could be! This is massively atmospheric, and very menacing. A thoroughly cinematic piece of writing. The first long pause had me checking connections at the back of my monitor amp though! 😂

@phlex

sloths will rule with an iron fist - be careful! enough silence to drift into the dubisphere - sounds like the theme song to turkish james bond in slothsville. excellent interpretation of slothcore!

@elamis

#slothcore sounds like my tote animal or spirit guide? I love it

[avatar]

come on lets barter! i feel i am in the market place! well done Ken its good - another step 😀

[avatar]

nice! that tempo is perfect for that middle eastern-sounding melody, too! ha, nap time.......
