Lyrics

we would sing when we were young
now we're always on the run
don't let them, don't let them make your heart a stranger

goldenrod, dandelions, we used to wear them just like diamonds
don't let them, don't let them make your heart a stranger

don't let them, don't let them make your heart
don't let them, don't let them make it hard

fold your laundry, pay your bills
but don't you walk past that swingset, let them say what they will
don't let them, don't let them make your heart a stranger

don't let them, don't let them make your heart
don't let them, don't let them make it dark

we would sing when we were young
now we're always on the run
don't let them, don't let them make your heart a stranger

Your rich buttery vocals over the gentle guitar strum makes your lyrics feel vulnerable and real. The vocal harmonies are beautiful. I like the track build as you went - the percussion and synth adds. Your melody is beautiful and so are the lyrics. I like how gentle this song is - like a gentle warning - the slow easy tempo is perfect also. I came here for the title too!

Great title - couldn’t resist listening when I saw that. @billwhite51 nailed it on the Roy Orbison vibe. This is quite lovely - perfect when you can’t quite sleep.

Great lyric, about nolstagia for the past.
The smooth vocal goes well with the fine acoustic strumming.
Very nice harmonies and that very fine slide solo was So Sweet!

Nice. I didn't start to tear up until the line "don't walk past that swingset" I love the way you mix the concrete bills and swingset and goldenrod and dandelions with the ideas, and the whole thing sits so nicely in your playing and singing. Great work.

This song is deceptively simple. Beautifully played, sung, written...all the things.

Just as good on a second listen, Justin. Such a sweet combination of meaningful lyrics, strong melody, and easygoing vocals.

This really hits an emotional sweet spot for me. That verse about not walking past the swingset should be posted where I can see it at all times. The whole thing is lovely--and I do get a Roy Orbison vibe, now that Bill mentions it--but that one verse just crystalizes the whole thing and makes the title come to life. Goldenrod and dandelions worn like diamonds--that's pretty great too

this cross between a roy orbison ballad and 70's singer-songwriting would fit perfectly into a twin peaks soundtrack. i can listen to it over and over. i also thank cleanshows for prompting you.

Beautiful song! This is perfect, beautiful lyrics and beautiful singing, guitar sounds lush, all round beautifulness! This sounds like a timeless classic.

I’m a sucker for songs where there’s a little repeated two line refrain/hook. This is such classy writing, and then the delivery is restrained with just the right emotional punch. Love how you build the track with the harmonies, shakers, claps etc. That slide solo is very lovely too (might be worth turning it up a little?). Top top song, well done man!

Love this. "goldenrod, dandelions, we used to wear them just like diamonds" that's just great!

Real nice sentiment to this. I like how this was composed where it starts with gentle strumming of the guitar and builds some different layers coming and going throughout the song. Nice tune!

[avatar]

Just lovely all over! That's a really nice little progression as well, accented very nicely with the shaker, and the little subtle slide was perfection! Beautiful lyric. Really touching tune!

Nice dream write! @cleanshoes

@crisp1

Beautiful!

Lots to love about this song. The lyric tells just enough of the story to let imagination fill in the rest. The chorus shortening and variations on the title speak volumes. The gentle singing and guitar playing complete the package. Well done!

Really wonderful with the tender insight and supportive words of encouragement. Beautiful sentiment and gorgeous music.

I really enjoyed this, its so catchy! I found myself trying to guess the next chord and prhase but you kept surprising me. Lyrics are awesome, so is the message.

This made me tear up a little. So good.

For anyone wondering, this was the only line I could remember from a tune I wrote in a dream last night. Sent it to @jeustan, and next thing I know it's a real live song!
