Liner Notes

Justin: I lost my voice, so new projects have to be put on hold. Instead, I'm sharing a rough outline of a post-FAWM collaboration with @kristi from back in March. That still counts, right? :-)

------------------------
EDIT: To be clear (since the comments indicate I wasn't!) this demo was recorded in March, not now. I'm stretching the rules a little because my voice is gone and because it *is* a FAWM collaboration, just one that occurred in the dark void between FAWM and 50/90. ๐Ÿ˜€
------------------------

As I recall, Kristi's lyric was the result of a skirmish about what you had done in the last five minutes. That a conceit that simple could prompt such a profound message of resilience is beyond me, I'm just grateful there are talented people like her around to pick up my slack! ๐Ÿ˜€

The audio here is a live, phone recorded demo originally intended to just share the idea with Kristi. It's quite literally the first or second time I had played the idea all the way through. I also had to hold back in certain spots to avoid clipping (and waking a sleeping child maybe? I don't remember). That said, perfection is thankfully not a FAWM requirement and there's something here I think is worth sharing. Hopefully you agree. ๐Ÿ˜€

Thanks for the inspiration, Kristi!

Lyrics

I take a sip of my morning tea
And thank the warmth it brings me
Happy the sun decided to shine
It always seems to clear my mind

I step outside to measure the snow
I don't even bother to put on a coat
My shoes don't sink when I walk
I heard distant sounds of birds that talk

Despite the cold the birds still sing
Busy with life, getting ready for spring
The stillness gives me room to think
And I smile, knowing the birds still sing

I squint my eyes as the sun beats down
Amazed at the shine reflected all around
Tracks from the plow make bold patterns
Suddenly I know what really matters

Despite the cold the birds still sing
Busy with life, getting ready for spring
The stillness gives me room to think
And I smile, knowing the birds still sing

Another day to dream
Another day to hope
I don't mind the chill on my cheeks
'Cause it makes my blood flow

Despite the cold the birds still sing
Busy with life, getting ready for spring
The stillness gives me room to think
And I smile, knowing the birds still sing

Love those opening resonant chords, and also how you used it as a transition throughout the song. These lyrics are such a lovely celebration of life and the wonder in nature. The lovely image of birds singing is such a joyful thing, as is the anticipation of spring. I feel the joy and wonder in the music. Such a soulful performance with lots of bright energy. What a wonderful marriage of lyrics and music! Great collab. I really enjoyed this beautiful song.

Nice feel... nice morning feel...D

I am finding guitalele songs today. I want to hear more, ( I think I will buy one). This format, is lovely, soft instrument strumming with space to breathe in between. Lovely song.

A very uplifting combination of effortlessly easy on the ear words and music...both leaving the listener in a better place than before hearing the song...a true gift in all senses!

Another great positive song - boy do we need them these days.

These lyrics transport me to a time and place I can relate to. The changing of seasons, particularly winter to spring. Such a glorious time. The vocal delivery and simple production works so well with these reflective lyrics. Is that a ukulele or your guitalele? Enjoyed listening...

I love "Stillness gives me room to think" and the delicate uke treatment works really well. Actually it's remarkable how you make such a rinky-dink sounding instrument rock out and dial up the passion of the piece.

Thank you again Justin for this lovely song! Thereโ€™s something thoughtful & absorbing about the music & your delivery. Iโ€™m delighted to hear another version of my skirmish lyric no less (jamkar did one during FAWM). Thatโ€™s the FAWM/50/90 magic at work right here!

Such a sweet lyric to start, and what you did with them is so good! I think you sound fine and it's a lovely song!

Your voice sounds fine. I had a FAWM (or was it 50/90) where I was "down" for about a week with barely a voice. Still tried anyway (yech!), but this vocal sounds great. Wonderful lyrics, Kristi. This is great!

Ha, if that's what you sound like singing with no voice, just be grateful you don't hear me singing in the shower. Very sweet lyrics and music.

1+1 fits this well, pretty lyrics and melody. A nice tribute to the end of winter and the hopefulness of the coming spring.
