Three weeks ago, in forum thread https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/forums/14?highlight=hier,+ein+deal , I promised @mahtowin to post something in German. Here it is!

I wrote this song two years ago for my little daughter, then 4 years old. It used to be a "live performance" only thing. 😄 I now turned it into an acoustic arrangement and made a clean recording.

Tried to write a rhymed translation, but not sure about some of the wording. 🤔 If you think it's good enough, or have some improvements, I could add a second recording in English. Let me know what you think.

Oh, and if you’d like to, I’d LOVE ♥ hearing this in other languages. So if you feel like doing your own translation and recording of this, feel free to! I am sharing some resources in https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/17v1_XKBLmRwSe9_K8EE902Vqd0GzMQqZ?usp=sharing . Kindly refer to the README.txt there for guidance.

Lyrics

Schlaflied für kleine Häschen
(German version)

Hast du heute an Möhrchen genagt?
Dir Geschichten und mehr ausgedacht?
Spitz die Öhrchen, hör wie Mama dir sagt:
Schließ die Äuglein, schlaf ein, gute Nacht

Hast du heute was Neues gewagt?
Was erkundet, getobt und gelacht?
Spitz die Öhrchen, hör wie Papa dir sagt:
Schließ die Äuglein, träum süß, gute Nacht
Schließ die Äuglein, träum süß, gute Nacht

---

Lullaby for Little Bunnies
(English version)

Did you nibble on carrots today?
Made up stories and fun things to play?
Prick your ears now, hear what mummy does say:
Close your eyes now, sweet dreams, hit the hay

Did you dare new adventures today?
Made discoveries, romped wildly in play?
Prick your ears now, hear what daddy does say:
Close your eyes now, sweet dreams, hit the hay
Close your eyes now, sweet dreams, hit the hay

Florian - this is beautiful in German and Afrikaans.
My son left for college today, and it was soothing to play with the English words to make it like a song I would have sung to him, when I still sang him to sleep.

I found I wanted to get to the Good Night that you use in German, because it feels more tender that "Hit the Hay"

Here's where I got to starting from your German and trying to capture the feelings, but not the particulars. Fun to think of translation as another kind of Morph Challenge.

Lullaby for Baby Bunnies

Did you gnaw all the carrots in sight
Did the stars in your heart burn bright
Snuggle up, Mama says it's alright
Close your eyes, fall asleep, now good night

Did you find enough dragons to fight
Did you soar through the clouds like your kite
Snuggle up, Daddy says it's alright
Close your eyes, sweet dreams, now good night

The line about "dragons to fight" could also be "farmers to fight" - if you wanted to stick with the rabbit - like Mr. McGregor in Peter Rabbit.

Here are some smaller tweaks to your English version...

Lullaby for Little Bunnies
(English version)

Did you nibble on carrots today?
Make up stories and games you could play?
Prick your ears up, hear what Mama will say:
Close your eyes now, sweet dreams, hit the hay

Did you go on adventures all day?
Discover, delight and display?
Prick your ears up, hear what Daddy will say:
Close your eyes now, sweet dreams, hit the hay
Close your eyes now, sweet dreams, hit the hay

@esc4p3

This sounds exactly like what it is intended to be, I can imagine the scene as your daughter listens and falls asleep to this tune. Iike it in German I think.

This is absolutely beautiful and so tender! I love how it flows and the gentle loving delivery! I am such a sucker for lullabies and this is so comforting. I know just enough German to love the sweetness of it.

lovely lullabye and so well sung. (I have a six year old daughter as well) my only siggestion in the translation is to nix hit the hay and stick with the straight-forward "good night"

@marthie Ooh, an Afrikaans version would be very welcome! 😊 Let me know if you’d like the original guitar track for it.

Mmmm! What a soothing sound. I LOVED "Did you nibble on carrots today?" Such love and affection in those words. --Oh! I just noticed the title. Brilliant! 😀

@nadine

Wie süß! Die Gitarre ist so schön 😀

Fabulous! I would love to do a translation in Afrikaans. We also have a way of saying ‘perk up your ears’.

This is gorgeous!
I'm enjoying the German version while reading along in English - and (in my opinion) the English works perfectly well, but I love the flow of the German. That said, please give me a heads up if you decide to record the English version, simply so I have an excuse to listen to it again!

Ach, wie schön! Ein Schlafliedchen - wunderschöne Idee! Hoffentlich hat es ihr gefallen - wobei ich mir kaum das Gegenteil vorstellen kann, so süss wie es ist. ❤️
