Talking Cars

Liner Notes

A #superskirmish, #songskirmish, #skirmish, #ss081322E, with the theme/prompt #route_66 . So I was going to skip this one, then I thought of the Disney Pixar (or maybe just one of them) kids animated movie 'Cars', that my grandson liked when it was new, where the cars were the characters, did all the talking, and traveled along Route 66. That movie in part was an inspiration, along with Stephen Sondheim, to do songs for a musical where our electric cars, and other cars, were the characters, and I poked fun at myself a bit for that and my age. As a result, or an apology, you decide when you hear this #acoustic_one_take song.

Lyrics

Verse 1 [G6/D] [C] vamp
Talking cars
Who would write a movie about talking cars
[D7] Cruising and conversing under the stars
On Route 66

Verse 2 [G6/D] [C] vamp
A kids show
Ah what do kids know
[D7] Glued to phones and idiot boxes
Playing the song route 66

[A] Down with their tik tok
[D] Snap chat making photo shop
[G] Look like reality
[A] Streams on Spotify
[D] Facebook for those who qualified
[G] On Social Security

Verse 3 [G6/D] [C] vamp
Talking cars
Yeah who would write songs about talking cars
[D7] Sadly with wheels instead of hands we'll never play guitar
On Route 66

Your title caught my eye, bringing to mind Gary Numan's ultra classic song "Cars," so I had to check out your lyrics. Interesting. Loved how you had Route 66 raid this song of today's world. Clever subliminal drop of the past onto these present technology-filled times to bring about a reader's/listener's thinking.

Lovely, soothing melody here. Well done!

No apologies needed! I saw the cars movies more times than I can count with my boys when they were little and I like how you ran with that! I like the sound of the guitar you got here and your delivery creates the poignancy that perfectly matches the lyrics.

The reverb and echo makes the guitar and your voice sound really cool. I really like your chorus - a very nice change up and contrast to the verse. Clever take on the prompt and I enjoyed your lyrics a lot - you have some great lines in there.

I like the feel you've put together with the reverb and echo. It seems like the thoughts you're not vocalizing while listening to someone natter on about talking cars and tik tok and who knows what else.

This made me smile. The bridge gave me a good laugh with "Facebook for those who qualified," etc. Nice job of combining so many inspirations into a cohesive creation.

Never saw that movie but I feel the nostalgia in your song. First you're young with no sense, then you're old and wonder where your senses went. Such is life on or off Route 66.

Ha ha ha I have to admit, Pixar's cars was on my mind when I came up with this prompt. Very clever!

Ha ha i have a long list of who would have thought it! This made me smile! Nice one Andy!
