Liner Notes

I sometimes forget how much work it was to learn to play piano! And then I get overwhelmed with smaller tasks. Man nothing beats playing the same song over and over and over again until you get it just right! and then the nerves kick in for the exams and you hope not to mess it up again...

Sonata for beginners

When you feel overwhelmed
With putting it all together
make it sound
Touch a heart
make it ring
Remember one thing
You’ve done this all before.

1 and 2 and 3 and 4
1 te and te 2 te and te 3 te and te 4 te and te
1 2 3 4.

First clap with your hands
then your right hand
then your left hand
put them all together
and pray for your neighbors ears.

one measure
one bar
one beat at a time
now add the pedal
tap the rhythm
with your feet.

Every day you keep on at it
count the days
add the hours
until the morning comes
when playing is second nature
and the notes become a song!

Do you remember how it was?
All the hard work, the frustration?
It’s not easy, it is slow
It is something you accomplish
makes you proud to move on.
to do it again, do it again, do it again.

So just begin…

Very relatable lyrics, Marthie. They are about the learning but also about teaching :)

ohgodohgodohgod DO I remember??? It's hardwired in. Even now I can't escape the fear that accompanied the possibility of after all that practice, messing it up. No, it's not easy. You've absolutely put in right! (I take revenge on the world by picking up violin far too late in life. Whistles, guitars folk'n'rock and even banjos and ukes are FAR roo easy. And as for the CBG, well, that's downright cheating :D )
