Bang Or A Whimper

by @mikeb

Liner Notes

This song was inspired by the 'End of the World' challenge - as well as the weather (drought/heat wave) we've been having here in New England this summer.

My nylon string guitar is the loneliest of my Taylors, hence that tag!

Lyrics

Bang Or A Whimper ©2022 Michael J Birch

Can’t believe the insanity
That I’m seeing every day
The lack of humanity
The world in total disarray

People showing their Christianity
With words of hate
Shouting out profanities
As they celebrate

Things are going dark
The final bell rang
The world has gone crazy
It’s gonna end with a bang

Crops dying from drought
While others get flooded away
Relief can’t be found
From the heat day after day

Scientists quick to point out
That no one had listened to what they say
‘Climate change’s a myth’ deniers shout
As we all march to our grave

Things are going dark
No use pointing fingers
The world has gone crazy
Its gonna end with a whimper

Greedy politicians and corporations
Have left us on our own
Watch the fall of every nation
Heading to the danger zone

Things are going dark
No use pointing fingers
The world has gone crazy
Its gonna end with a whimper

Things are going dark
The final bell rang
The world has gone crazy
It’s gonna end with a bang

I am a massive fan of acoustic based rock with a message. There is a real "Strawbs" or "Barclay James Harvest" feel to this and they were two of my favourite 70s bands. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

@andrea

I really enjoyed the vibe of the music and vocals. Plenty of truth in your sad message. The world has issues on multiple levels. Great song!

Your beautiful playing and singing make the bleak message one I wanted to listen to. Great work.

Started reading the lyrics before listening to the song and was really enjoy them--and then clicked for the music and WOW! Great, great job on this--music-wise and vocal as well as those lyrics. Terrific!

Nylon string guitar mixed with some spacey synths is a great combination in this case. Menacing chord progression appropriately. I feel the end is near, but it's still pleasantly groovy.

Wow, that Taylor sounds great.
The lyrics are Bleak put very Truthful. And that Chorus is Awesome where all the voices kick in.
The Synth-Strings add an eerie sound that matches the theme well.
Dark, but Poingant!
