Liner Notes

I got so excited reading these lyrics by @yam655
https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/84
that i didn't notice that @mikehex had already done a fantastic demo.

Hopefully I'm not stepping on any toes, this was too much fun not to share. While Mike's version will remain the seminal work (heh) can there really be too many versions of this song?
Oh and @dzdandcunfsd was willingly coerced into adding drums and guitar.

Step into the mind cage.

Well, this is just a million shades of awesome! The manic chipmunk ‘Nicholas Cage’ choir is genuinely kinda disturbing. Hilarious too, obviously. Lyrics are brilliant. What a work of art. Well played all!!

Fabulous collaboration - the delivery is awesome - the different voices and the repetitive phrases are so effective and haunting!

Oh man. I am speechless. "Nicolas Cage Nicolas Cage" is immediately and perhaps permanently stuck in my head. Thanks all around for doing this to me. The slow and melodic section in the middle sandwiched by all that action is exactly the Nicolas Cage vibe. Nailed it.

I love that 'Nicolas Cage! Nicolas Cage! It's such a strange and likable way to pay hommage. And the element of tongue in cheek drama (with extra drama guitar notes) combined with emphasizing drums and wild guitars, plus the shortness of this....it all makes me go for more spins!

[avatar]

This is wild and crazy and cool. I liked being surprised about where it was gong next. The Nicolas Cage chant, is just bizarre and wonderful. That's fun!

There can never be too many songs or movies with Nicholas Cage. I love the rhythm you found in the words. I realized as I listened, I had replaced Nicholas Cage the actor with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and was imagining this song in a scene in Wings of Desire. There's so much juice in confusion.

[avatar]

Huh huh you said “seminal”

This came out super cool, it was a journey. So many interesting choices and feels, it’s both welcoming and terrifying.

@ttg105

This is hilariously mental ... love the lyrics and bizarre amalgamation of styles. Drum-only was my fave! A cheerful blast of musical insanity.

[avatar]

Whoooo! This is delightful. Where do I sign up to have some of that Kool-Aid?

@phlex

wonderful unexpected changes throughout! I don't know what this could be classified at (if it has to at all) - but certainly elements of lounge, pop, death metal, jazz, funk - an aural encyclopaedia entry of the last 100 years of underground sounds.

@mahtowin

This is a furios mix of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Frank Zappa and Queen!
Absolutly brilliant!

@djtjb

Lol I've been waiting for someone to do this since the second I read @yam655 lyrics. This did not disappoint! Now I too have to check out the @mikehex version

[avatar]

Perfect. Leaving me with a „what did I just listen to?“-feeling. Also hearing Kate Bush in the vocals and something that was unearthed from the local cemetery.

[avatar]

Very well done! Like the fanatical voices and intensity as it goes, much fun to listen to!

@candle

Oh yeah, this is a trip. Creepy & almost cultish. I'm picturing a cult in some ancient temple dedicated to Nick Cage because of some weird accident where a plane with a crate full of Nick Cage memorabillia crashed landed. This would be the cult's theme song.

Awesome collab. Now I gotta go check out @mikehex 's version to compare.

See You In The Shadows…

[avatar]

Oh this is wild! The crazy wicked borderline impossible vocal range, and awesome guitar/drums. Well done on the collab!

@fuzzy

Haha yeah I was considering those lyrics too.
Maybe we should try to convince the 50/90 community to pick these words up and see how many versions we can get going...
So great.
Yeah, this is definitely a winner here.
Everything about this is wonderful.
That chorus is a bit creepy, tho.

@wolfkier

That was some crazy fun. Particularly enjoyed the "this song means something deepisher" section. And some very unshabby drumming abnd guitaristing. Well done.

@yam655

This is fantastic! Very nice!

I agree. There can't really be too many versions of the song. 😀

@cblack

Bloody hell, this was great! So manic, great vocals, and I love that drum beat. Such a chaotic song. I love it.

[avatar]
@mikehex

Love this take! Those chirpy sing-song "Nicolas Cage" vocals are infectious!

@sph

Yes, there can't be too many versions of those lyrics. I get Kate Bush-Vibes from your "different personas" vocals. Big fun!
