Liner Notes

So I was listening to Andy’s “Says Hey Mary” sound clip on thisisbeckyw a week or so ago - & a phrase of his really caught my attention, enough to take me into a great mental image of “certain ravens”…what certain ravens might know or see (as compared to “all ravens”), where & when they might show up, what their presence could mean…& it pulled me right into free-flow writing. Then when I listened to his piece again, once the writing spill ended, I realized I had heard him incorrectly – his were “CIRCLING ravens”. (Not enough coffee that morning, it appears…) So that struck me as funny enough to springboard another song on the inspiration that comes from a misheard two-word combination – will post that one soon as well.
This one has no clean recording yet – will make that happen soon. And thanks, Andy!! @andygetch

Lyrics

Certain Ravens
~ Sammi ~

Certain ravens say to me “Girl, there’s no time to sleep,
You’ve got a million songs to write and promises to keep”
And certain ravens know the truth, they’ve seen it in my dreams
A life that seems so safe from harm, but fraying at the seams

Borrowed words from Andy as I drank the coffee down
Knowin’ he’d been right there all along
So I head back into what I’d read in the book I could not put down
And I need to find the taste of feeling strong
And where to travel next to find this song

Certain ravens travel with me everywhere I go
They’ve seen me at my best and at my worst
I’ve trusted them and fought with them and never learned to tell
If this murder is a blessing or a curse

He sang of certain ravens and I knew the line was true
Followed it for melody by whim
Later learned his ravens were uncertain after all
And how their eyes shine as they share a grin
Yeah, certain ravens sparkle when they grin

Certain ravens say to me “Girl, there’s no time to sleep,
You’ve got a million songs to write and promises to keep”
And certain ravens know the truth, they’ve seen it in my dreams
A life that seems so safe from harm, but fraying at the seams
