NCC-5090 [A Star Trek Theme]

by @florianhoffmann

Liner Notes

It has always been a dream of me to compose a Star Trek theme. A week ago I suddenly realized that there's nothing stopping me from it - so I simply decided to make this dream come true.

As discussed in https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/forums/167, my favorite Star Trek themes are the one from the movie First Contact and the series Voyager, so that's roughly what I set out for.

This piece is still looking for a good name. Its current name is a registry number, like all federation space ships in Star Trek have. If you have any good ideas, I'd appreciate your posts in the comments.

Nice flow, and nice use of strings. I like the rhythmic background part, nicely layered. Then the brass/winds get the melody.

I like this, it's rather memorable, good job.

Great theme - made even more impressive by the way you have captured the essence of existing Star Trek themes and delivered something new while staying true to the spirit of the ones we know. The nod to 5090 in the title is a nice touch.

Absolutely outstanding, Florian! From the first note to the last. Totally pro.

@cblack

Damn! This was great! You absolutely nailed it. I'm sharing this one with my geek friends who aren't on 50/90. Brilliant.

@nadine

If I ever do a sci fi movie, I'll engage you for the opening theme. This is brilliant. The arrangement and the horn theme. You nailed the trek vibe. 🖖

Oh my goodness this is fantastic! I am a big Star Trek fan and this made the hairs on my neck stand on end. I can hear this as either on the film or as the theme to a new series, 'A New Beginning'. I'm making sure my neighbours can hear this too!!

Absolutely brilliant music, orchestration, choice of instruments and atmosphere. Very suitable for Star Track and for other movies based on planets, adventures, timeless movies. Brilliant work!

@beacon

Love the french horn in this and the minor chords that seem to come out of nowhere at just the right time. Beautifully done!

You nailed it. The arrangement is more than an homage, though the attention to instrumentation and composition is so impressive, but you've created an entirely new series in my brain stock with a stalwart captain, admirable doctor, a host of rivals, dangers and wonders... Very well done.

Excellent - a really enjoyable listen 💯

My sibling @complexissimple played this song for me and my brain decided it's for a Star Trek series where they lose their ship and have to go hiking in the mountains on an alien planet. :B

@toms

THIS IS AWESOME. Now create a series around it, one like one of the older series!!!! Love this!!!

[avatar]

Awesome work, you really capture the Star trek sense of wonder and grandeur!

I second Berty with all-caps. THIS IS MAJESTIC! I want to blast this while stargazing as it captures all the wonders of space in a song.

[avatar]

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. It's got the same curiosity and hopefulness of the best Star Trek themes.

NCC-5090! I love it!!!
This is a beautiful composition! It sounds like it belongs in Star Trek. It evokes mystery, hope, anticipation, and that thread of wanderlust that a trek theme needs to have…coffee…black…I’m listening again!!!! Really well done!

Birth of a new world. I was waiting for this one. Love the layers. Awesome work!

HA! This is perfect! I would immediately thought of Star Trek if I heard it without knowing you made it for this reason!
Ziemlich klasse! Hut ab 😊

That trumpet fanfare gets things off to a perfect start and I can hear the nod to Jerry Goldsmith in that big French Horn theme. You nailed it.
