8-Bit Crusader

Liner Notes

A bit of #retrogaming based silliness on the #ukulele that I've just sort of thrown together. #fuc

You'd think that if we did have wave after wave of aliens coming at us, we'd have more to defend us that one barely mobile ship with a dodgy laser cannon. But that's what we had in 1978, and I suppose you can only work with what you've got.

I guess this counts as #filk.

(Edit: I didn't mean to switch perspective in the last verse. Oops! I'll fix that some other time.)

Lyrics

We pointed our new telescope towards Alpha Centauri
And we thought we would discover more about the Milky Way
But we found a swarm of battlecruisers heading our direction
And we think that you're the only pilot who can save the day

The 8-bit crusader
Against the space invaders
Saving the humans
One level at a time

We'll equip you with the things you need to save our planet
From the waves and waves of aliens streaming into sight
The top defence technology, state of the art machinery,
It fires one bullet at a time and moves from left to right

We've put some concrete barriers between you and the enemy,
They surely will prevent their lasers causing you to fry
There's only fifty five of them, so one of you should be enough
To keep the Earth defended as they hover in the sky

The 8-bit crusader
Against the space invaders
Saving the humans
One level at a time

They're coming ever closer and the waves are getting faster
While the mother ship files overhead and carefully observes
But the red and green filters on my fancy console monitor
Will help me and my laser cannon safeguard planet Earth

(8-bit solo)

The 8-bit crusader
Against the space invaders
Saving the humans
One level at a time

What a fun take. Yes, this is great. I cannot believe how much nostalgia you've wrapped up in this tune. Now, I miss my Atari. Thanks a lot! (fake pouty face)

Yay space invaders. I coded a version of it in basic for my TI 99/4 when I was 13. Thanks for the wonderful walk down memory lane.

i dont play video games so i dont know if this lyric is based on such a source or if you are simply a very imaginitive writer...either way, i like it, especially the rapid fire rhythm of your lyrics rocking over the jaunty rhythms.
