Dream On Me

Liner Notes

Here's number 48 of the #WK100 collection. This one has been a little difficult and I think I finally got a handle on it. But don't let me tell you, you tell me. How's the mix? Anything ugly you can hear that I missed for the trees? If you're kind enough to listen and comment, feel free to leave nits/crits/ideass/input/opinions please and also let me know what you're listening to it on. It might make a difference, the goal of course is to (somehow miraculously) make these things sound great on everything from a hi fidelity surround system to an AM wrist radio.... God help me, but that's the bar apparently.
This one started life in January 2016, so outside challenge times and not a lot of people have heard it. The mosquito inspired wolf bvox choir always makes me smile..... The idea is how does a "too cool" mister tip his hand to his love interest without dropping his guard. And the pre-dawn station meeting puts me in mind of some European railway stations and their crazy all night cafes and, I had a buddy once was a cab driver, and the cabbie all night diner joints he' introduced me too were the weirdest kind of hook up, post late date coffee places ever and ALWAYS had the best burgers or steak sandwiches. Next time you're in a cab at night, ask the driver where he stops for his break. Pro tip; it's always near a cap depot.
I hope you enjoy and I wish you all a happy Summer creative weekend ahead! Thanks so much for all the kind attentive ears so far. It really is helping. September, week 2, I hope, all this will be done and I have a list of repay visits . Boy it's gonna be weird not having this project buzzing through my head everyday finally after 18 months of complete obsessive effort! ....
Hugs.

++++++++++++++++++++++++

You been dreaming, seeing ghosts
But looking backwards can't give you hope
Come and dream on me, Come and dream on me
Come and dream on me, Come and dream on me
I'll never understand what a girl go through,
But don't you ever wonder what
a bad boy's doing hanging round?
hanging round? Hanging round you?

I been hiding, I been lying
I been waiting, just to talk to you
Come and dream on me, Come and dream on me (Just to talk to you)
Come and dream on me, Come and dream on me (Just to)
I'll never understand what a girl go through,
But don't you ever wonder what
a bad boy's doing hanging round?
hanging round? Hanging round you?

Come and dream on me, Come and dream on me
Come and dream on me, Come and dream on me
don't you ever wonder what
a bad boy's doing hanging round?

Been daydreaming, softly scheming
Saving pennies for the day I turn your frown into a smile
(into a smile)
I'll never understand what a girl go through,
But don't you ever wonder what
a bad boy's doing hanging round?
hanging round? Hanging round you?

Open invitation,
I'll meet you at the station
At 3.33 and we'll watch the dawn
And we'll start this conversation.
(start this conversation)

Open invitation,
I'll meet you at the station
At 3.33 and we'll watch the dawn
And we'll start this conversation.
(start this conversation)

Come and Dream on me.
Hanging round you, yeah!

Yeah, I like that mosquito mmmmmmmmn mmmmmmmmn bvox as well! It's a fresh mix, likable. My ears, between 1.29-1.35 are asking: what to focus on, what do like to hear most? Guitars or brass? Still undecided :) I also like that 'other zone' feel I get from that 3:33 moment the dawn is there. That verb verb/echo on the rhythm guitar is priceless. On the solo guitar as well by the way!

Entertaining back story - for me, the after hours place was Dennys - where else could you go for breakfast after closing down the club in that small town? Didn't stop some guys from hitting on you... And the 3:33 reference is interesting - it has special meaning to me.

Loved this line -

"But don't you ever wonder what
a bad boy's doing hanging round?"

I knew so many really bright women in Silicon Valley high tech companies I worked with dating biker dudes. Saw one, in particular, at a Mavericks concert at the Saratoga Winery but she was there with biker dude for the Junior Brown opening act. Opened-my-eyes!

As for the mix, I agree - swagger and cool backing vocals panning. Could use some dirt on the brass but, then, I think it could always use some dirt on the brass. I just didn't realize it until @phlex said it.

Mix sounds great to me (listening on Sony MDR-7506 headphones)! Lots of space and each instrument is clear and alive! Vocals are really nice - love the panned backing vocals - the performance is full of swagger and groove - all together creates a great song - a sort of 80s punk folk feel! In terms of advice - maybe the brassy sounds could come up in the mix a bit, and a little bit more dirt (overdrive the low end on the bass and drums) in the mix to bring out the punk - but not sure if that would add much really - sounds killer as it is!
