Please Don't Put Me Back In The Box

Liner Notes

I have an #electric_ukulele that I sometimes use for quiet practice, but also a while ago I got an inexpensive multi-effects pedal (a Valeton GP-100) to mess about with and see what it did, which I did for a few days, then it went into the cupboard with all the other stuff I don't use. I thought I'd dig it out, and when I did, it sang this to me.

I don't really know how to use effects :). Nor do I know how to play solos. Perhaps the poor #lonelygear will teach me one day.

The uke is a Risa stick tenor (essentially a cross between a cricket bat and a tennis racket), tuned DGBE.

Lyrics

I hope you're having fun with your nerdy folk
You sing a couple of verses, and then sneak in a joke
With a cheery sounding uke it's hard to go wrong
You get away with being snarky if you do it in a song

But we'll still be here when you run out of gags
When you need a bit more than a plink and a twang
When it's time to plug in and make some noise
We're always here to give you a voice

I haven't seen the light of day for a while,
And I'll soon be in the cupboard in that untidy pile,
But I know that at heart you want to rock
So please don't put me back in the box

We're glad to see you're making music
With our mates that are acoustic
But we are getting lonely in here
Even though you can say that you've got all the gear

Which reminds me...
the ventriloquist said to his roadie: Got all the gear?
The roadie replied: No thanks! I'm driving!

Anyway...

I haven't seen the light of day for a while,
And I'll soon be in the cupboard in that untidy pile,
But I know that at heart you want to rock
So please don't put me back in the box

I haven't seen the light of day for a while,
And I'll soon be in the cupboard in that untidy pile,
But I know that at heart you want to rock
So please don't put me back in the box

(Without moving lips)
Please don't put me back in the box

Sometimes my food asks not to be put back in the fridge. It wants to fulfil its destiny and be eaten. So it makes a lot of sense if equipment also wants to fulfil its destiny and be used.

That would go a whirl at a uke festival and their are plenty! Just the right amount of humour! The solo is nice. Pity the Scottish uke fest in dumfries is finished!

Fun, and sad (for the Uke)! Mix sounds great - has a rambunctious punk folk feel - full of stomping and drinking! Lyrics are great - very meta - especially when you can throw a joke in straight at the second line - was wondering where the perspective was - but then realised the lonelygear tag - the ultimate punchline. Awesome!
