Liner Notes

#melancholy #oldschool
Sometimes you walk into a room that you've walked into a thousand times before, but it suddenly feels different.
You look around and everything is the same, but still...it feels like everything has changed.
Forever.
And you just accept it and say to yourself, "...oh."

@steviej

hey thanks for your comments on last track. This is a cool instrumental and reading your explanation got me in the right mindset and I think you certainly pulled off the sound you were going for. great job.

So glad for 50/90 so that I don't have to wait whole years for more of these tasty jams. This definitely carried me into a thousand-yard realm contemplating all manners of existence while just looking at my same old furniture in the same old place. Melancholy but not morose. The acceptance is audible. Well done.

When the beat hits so good you start question if you're a masochist. Reminds me alot of the instrumentals we would steal online years ago because we had no chance of making anything this clean and solid ourselves. This is the kind of quality that created youtubetomp3 pages. Great work!

I know the feeling and I can picture the standing in the doorway kind of contemplation/realization right here, clearly. Loving the kick, the synths, how all of this sounds. The panning, how the layers are woven. And that bass drop at 1:28–yes! Till the end, it tells a story for sure.

Very expressive scenery. Cool choice of instrumentation. It always surprises me how things changing. Not always for the better. In fact, when do they change for the better? So true, all we can say is oh. Or grrrrrrrr
Loving your music :)

@phlex

dig that drum pattern - love open hats dancing around where they normally sit. cool swing on the groove - shuffle all night long. the synthy stuff gives it a neon glow over the low end - feels dream like - those vocal lines especially. joyful. the vibrato reinforces the '..oh' of change. nice!

[avatar]

yessss, i feel like i'm climbing a tower, on the way to approach a final boss in some sort of video game! 😄 the drums have alot of groove, and it adds to the suspense of the track!

[avatar]

Cool track, I like the mood of this one. Starts off nice and the drums really enhance things. Definitely fits the title haha.

[avatar]

Loving the drop... Plenty of chunky old school goodness to keep this listener entertained for a long time aaaaand THAT BASS! Really nice work :)

@cola

Ooh, lots to like about this one! Layers of synth goodness building up a chill, melancholic atmosphere, with a nice beat and subtle changes that keep the whole thing moving. Great work!

[avatar]

Genius. You know how to hook in our ears and then keep us hooked. That simple descending motif on repeat with the synth that just teases us with a bit of ear candy vibrato on the last note kept me wanting more. Then you changed up the synth pad to a new sound but still dangled that motif for us to latch onto. Chill, effortless vibes yet cleverly woven together

[avatar]

oh. good music to look around the room by.

@nuj4x

The intro was spacey and kind of exquisite, almost like a funky EDM version of Jamiroquai. It immediately had my foot tapping and my head swaying side to side. The synth that fires off in the background is addictive, and then little change up of it at the end was a brilliant move. It's got a grooving beat, a futuristic city noir feel, and overall a great vibe! Outstanding job!

@gm7

Oh yes..loving this. That underlying piano and keyboards/synth yummy.
YOUR BACK..super glad about that and @cts is getting the muscial itch from your song! MEGA MIND

@sbs2018

Oh, yeah! loving this! I’ve gotten away from my usual style to try different things but this has inspired me to get back to it!

[avatar]

aah, nice! I really like that the lovely synths harmonize with each other for the recurring lick in the beginning without any other instruments. And I like that it came in a higher register right before the beat kicks in. It does have s a bit of a melancholic twist I think that kind of is a realization 'oh.. things are not really the same, after all in a more self-accepting way. Even then, the general vibe is cool and laid-back~

@cts

Sitting here in the office wishing I was at my studio because you (and quite a few others) are recalling giving me good inspiration vibes. I love the low chill of this and I agree - there’s a hint of Flaming Lips here (I love those guys). Interestingly further is how this sounds on my iPhone 6 (tell no one). It has a nice even tone to it and I don’t hear any parts getting lost or overpowering the mix. Nifty.

@atam94

Yeah!! I have missed listening to your music since FAWM ended. As always, I caught myself nodding along. You really set the mood well.

[avatar]

So good to hear some new Splittybooms music. Vibe’n to this familiar but unfamiliar place…I can relate.

@djtjb

Yeah that lead line is infectious. Funky ass space trumpets. And the growling modulation on the chords give it some bite. Combined with ethereal sounds it definitely put me in a melancholy trance. I could listen to this all day everyday, so smooth

[avatar]

nice one mate! very lush and fruity! David T is right but just the start is very Flaming Lips. nice tune!

[avatar]

I’m almost getting a hint of Flaming Lips here! Maybe just me though. Love that super solid kick/snare combo, saturated just the right amount. The main lead melody is awesome. Loads of drama and movement in the track. Top work!

[avatar]

Lovely crisp drums, I love the hiss of the open hihat (?) giving it an interesting texture. Very cool how that vocal synth drifts in at the end too - this really captures a mood, nice work!

[avatar]
@cblack

This is gorgeous! Nice amount of change-ups, an interesting lead line, nice droning background. The drums hold it all together.

Nice work!

You ever see Dark City? That’s what your liner notes made me think of…trippy stuff. I love the layers and the way the different instruments play around each other and the drums are gonna make me snap my neck. Mmmm delicious
