Thanks @corinnecurcio for hosting. I started 15 minutes late, in case the skirmish police ask why I'm coming in 15 minutes late :)

Lyrics

in the early days of the 20th century
a new dog came along making history
while the Balkan wars were raging in Europe
Coney Island crowds were surging
hungry and happy for a fast food spree

it's a beef and pork hot dog topped with beef heart sauce,
two stripes of mustard, onions
here you go boss
when you're town, a Detroit Coney won't let you down
Coney Dog!

well down in Ohio they got chili dogs
covered in cheese and chili with some kind of bean
Chicago dogs are an artful salad
but I can't say I've recently had it
cause all I ever want is a Coney Dog

it's a beef and pork hot dog topped with beef heart sauce,
two stripes of mustard, onions
here you go boss
when you're town, a Detroit Coney won't let you down
Coney Dog!

This is so fabulous - I love the laid-back feel of this your smooth vocal delivery of these lyrics! The title caught my attention, because I now live in an Ohio town (relatively new here) in which Tuesday is Coney Dog Night at the local drive-up A&W...I have friends who refuse any other kind of Tuesday dinner through the whole warm season while it's open. You so nailed it - & I'm getting to hear it on the right day, even!! What a great listen this one is!

Well i am the skirmish police! (If you didnt see my song). You are not charged! Nice chugging guitar. I really like this!

Wow. This is one of my favorite choruses I've ever heard on 50/90. I love your attention to craft in both the lyrics and the melody, and it's so dang catchy and singable.

I can taste this song.
Friday, I ended up on Google maps looking at my old neighborhood and stomping grounds. (i dunno why but I get into these rabbit holes every now and then and spend hours looking at old memories on the map in street view)
There was a coney island - I think it was called Jon's Coney Island - that I used to go to a lot. I especially went there when I was feeling down, as the staff were always so friendly that it made me feel better.
Their breakfast was awesome, but most times I just ordered two coney dogs with extra onions and yes, chili.
It was sad to see the place no longer there.
I dunno if its the thought of that place being lost among other bittersweet memories of various coney islands around Detroit and suburbs...or if its the way you sing this song...but this made me pretty sad.
Past all that, though - i see this is a skirmish; what a great one!
"artful salad" - I like this description of my beloved Chicago Dog (I was born there...in Chicago...not saying I was born inside of a hot dog)
I feel you could sing about anything, a friggin computer desk or a flight of stairs and make it engaging and sound good.
Thanks for making me think of some old times.

I had no idea that what I needed was a history lesson about Coney Dogs...Beef Heart Sauce. Wow. I especially love the way you stretch out Coney - to make it feel a little like howling at the full moon. Great write.

This is like a real life musical recipe blog. Beautiful.

@tjeff

Love the outside-the-box take on the prompt, creative idea! Guitar and vocals sound great. I like the humorous story and you've written a concise lyric that tells your story well.

Wonderful song. There's a stripe or two of nostalgia in the mix. Love the comparisons with other cities dogs. Cool skirmish work.

Very unexpected use of prompt, interesting, original and heartfelt, humorous too. Amazing work.

I've been thinking of going to Coney Island soon. But it really has beef heart sauce? Eek! This is a fun song, and nice use of the prompt!

[avatar]

Very cool, you must love them 'dogs'. Nice playing and singing. Loved the backhanded compliments to Ohio and Chicago dogs
Now what should I eat??

Best hot dog song I have heard in a long while. A heartfelt and humorous historical trip through the types and styles. Well done on the skirmish!

Ha, an Ode to the Hot Dog! Yummy! Well, let's see what specialities we have around here that could be put to music. Hmm, our neighbor city has a famous sweet called Mannemer Dreck, "dirt of Mannheim", https://mannemerdreck.com/ . And our other neighbor city has a different famous sweet called Heidelberger Studentenkuss, "student's kiss of Heidelberg", https://www.heidelbergerstudentenkuss.de/ . I only fear the rhyme dictionary will give me hell for them. 😅

I really love the simplicity & heartfelt love for this amazing food. Great song!

See You In The Shadows…

ha, I can smell the mustard! Coney Island rules! (beef heart sauce tho? don't know that variation!) this is great fun, and the music and performance match the fun lyric.
