Lonely and Blue

Liner Notes

MikeB- I think this might be first time I've collaborated with Simon, hard to remember as I've been reading his lyrics and hearing his songs on the Muse and FAWM for years!
Simple 12-bar blues seemed an easy fit for the fun lyrics!

Simon - This lyric wrote itself in about 15 minutes. I love blues and blues-rock music and had been listening to a Blues show on Planet Rock. I decided to flip the traditional blues theme (guy's lost everything) on its head by having a lyric that's about a guy who has everything ... except for love.

Lyrics

Lonely And Blue ©2022 Simon Wright and Michael J Birch

I got the sexiest accent
That's voted, official
Come from the happiest place
That's official too
So how come
How come
I'm so lonely and blue

I got the coolest motor
Babe magnet, it's special
Live in a lakeside mansion
That's special too
So how come
How come
I'm so lonely and blue

I got an athlete's body
Pecs bulging, top level
I wear Armani suits
That’s top level too
So how come
How come
I'm so lonely and blue

Is it my body?
Are you intimidated?
Is it my lifestyle?
Too rich for you?
Yeah, how come
How come
I'm so lonely and blue

Confident guitar and questioning guy. What a good combo. Poor soul, so well demonstrating his inability to figure it out. So well done.

Fun bluesy rocker. I like that the guy is so oblivious that he's not just unsure why those things don't make him happy, he seems to be blaming other people for why it doesn't make him happy. 😄

What a sweet intro! Love the bluesy rock vibe to bring the lyrics to life. Nice reminder that material 'things' do not equal happiness. Great collab!

"How come I'm so lonely and blue" is the perfect refrain for a blues tune. Nice way to contrast that with all the guy has. Nice 12 bar music too with the solid background groove with the lead licks on top.

this is so good. the words and music were made for each other. soper ferformance as well. i would file it under rock and roll. and i dont hear much good rock and roll these days, so thank you.

Love the twang. Ah 12-bar blues, calms the digestion, moves the heart, soothes the soul, this is just nuts to me, where's my piano....okay, tearing away from the music to the lyrics, absolutely a blue suit! I'm sure that's what cycles through the heads of the beautiful People at 2AM in the morning.!

Classic ‘money don’t bring happiness’ story. He has what most of us think we want/need to be fulfilled. Mike - I always a soft spot for the blues. Well executed performance!

Tapping along on the desk here! This is a real grin-maker. I like the less than typical 12 bar turnaround and breaks you've thrown in there. And it sounds like you had great fun doing this one!
Great collab guys. :-)

Ah, I DO like the sentiment of these lyrics. And you guys definitely have the music genre down. Great job!

Great shuffle groove and that rundown turnaround is very effective. Very nice playing and a clever juxtaposition of the normal blues downer lyrics.

I like your slight subversion of the blues staples - we still have the bittersweetness and ambivalence, but manifest in slightly different ways. This comes across in the music, too: it's a piece that's *mostly* happy, and overall that's where the mood sat with me - the music landed with me more than the lyric, which would not have been the case if the "blueness" took the upper hand.

Re-reading the lyrics, there's a lot of delicious self-aggrandisement and bravado in them, and the quick undercuts at the end of each verse bring the narrator down quite a lot pegs in quite a short space of time. And yet the delivery plays this contrast effortlessly, making it all seem a normal part of the internal conflict we all face on such issues.

Well played bluesy guitar and also the accompanying instruments. I love what you did melodically in the "how come, how come I'm so lonely and blue". My toes were tapping the whole way through - great song!

Ha! Love it! Awesome blues rock, oh yeah!

Thanks Mike. This sounds AMAZING! Great choice of style and the delivery is top class. Think we've done one previous collab before on the Muse site - a song called Black Heart Lane - but this is the first FAWM/50 90 one. :)
