Night Creatures/Flying Kalimba

Liner Notes

A midi song (that's how I would like to play a bass). #avatar_challenge #jazz_funk #four_on_the_floor #shake_ur_booty

This is super cool, I loved listening to it! A lot going on, but without being distracting. Really nice!

@phlex

feeling them funky vibes! has some jazzed up eno/bowie moves. can see myself dancing like a loon to this. lots of space around the beat - holding poses whenever possible - voguing is back - snapshots of sweat mid-flight. awesome!

This reminds me of the music for the original Starcraft game in parts, with all the different sections and the fretless bass patch. Would have fit right in with mellower games of that era, like SimCity or maybe a point-n-click adventure. Nicely done!

So many different tight little cool rhythms throughout keeping me looking forward to the next section and what you'll incorporate next.
Bass is bouncing along under these lovely oldschool synths and drums, some really cool grooves emerge in various spots.
I like how you go from these really intriguing sections that almost feel...i think "inquisitive" is the word...then you go into those groovy sections.
LOVE the motif at 1:15 on top of the bass and the more intense drums - that had me moving my shoulders.
I really get the "night creatures" feel and visual here - that whole idea feels very 90s and that's a very good thing. For some reason I have a memory of...i dunno maybe it was one of those Windows 3.1 screensavers or something...of like lizards and iguanas and stuff like that all colorful on a black background floating around my cousin's computer screen. It had no audio of course, but THIS just feels like it should have been playing with it.
Love this on many different levels.

ooh smooth mellow groove, i like the contrast between the slow groove and the fast repeated notes in the bass. Takes me back to my college days - oooh that trippy-up bass rhythm is so tasty. oof love the random bit before 2.40 - very nice and jazzy

This is the sort of dance groove I can get into. The interplay of the kalimba and the funky bass is a great if unexpected combo!

I feel like there is nothing better in music than a groovin' bassline. Especially when it just grabs you and holds on tight. So many wondrous possibilities inside of a bassline. I love midi and I love your song. The push and pull, the ebb and flow of the instruments giving and taking, and a kind of orchestral vibe coming in at 1:08 was magical. The whole song was magical. I especially loved the little mini drop at 2:56. I was bopping along with it and I think I almost broke my neck on that part LOL 😀

@fuzzy

Yeah, I bought a bass just before FAWM and I wish I could play it that well, too.
I'm loving the sci-fi synth(?) accents there; very Eno-y (is that a legitimate descriptor word? It is now!).
A very seductive tune here (not in a sexual way (well, maybe a bit); it's really drawing me in with its mellow awesomeness (does any of that make sense?)).
Yeah, excellent work!

@djtjb

This is so smooth and so jazzy. That bassline just drives the whole piece and the kalimba delighted me even more just with how open and spacey it sounds.

[avatar]

yup agree it could be any of those title. very tight and clean with that nice backing drone! cool stuff

[avatar]

Both of these are very approprite titles. The kalimba is just skimming around teasing that big stalking bass monster, yet it's playful and quite relaxing.

[avatar]

you're a badass. the kalimba is killin it. the bass got my neck snappin and the rest of the instrumentation fills everything out perfectly. this is that nice nice!!! thx for your kind words on rap bully...DOOM heads gotta stick together.

[avatar]

Nice groove, great Bassline, very smooth. I can see the kalimbas skimming low over the horizon.

Respect for not backing away from the challenge in the face of a kalimba! It sounds great, a little bit like laid back Kraftwerk. Bass line is awesome. Liking the 80s vibes with those pads (I’ve been watching too much Stranger Things probably). Great job!

[avatar]

the bass holds the line throughout, and i i love the way you open things up by adding new instruments along the way.

@yam655

This was very relaxing and peaceful. Very enjoyable.

I get more midnight videogame nightclub vibe than a dance thing.

Re; bass playing....who wouldn't really! :) Sounds pretty darn real to me anyway. Like a musicman bass! Tune is very chill, nicely understated. Tritone (I think?) around 1:20 and 2:26 and 3:00? Whatever that is, it's very cool.
