Cola says: Now updated with a collaborative demo between Nadia and me! From the original lyric, Nadia created this wonderfully ominous piano track, along with a guide for the melody, and then I added my vocals. Thanks Nadia for a fun collab!

Skirmish theme: "IF LOOKS COULD KILL"

Thanks @corinnecurcio for the fun prompt! I ended up taking this one rather literally.

Collaborations are welcome! While writing this, I was picturing it as a folk song or sea shanty, but I feel like there are a variety of genres that could work.

(Original liner notes preserved for recordkeeping purposes only - I am no longer looking for collaboration on this song.)

Lyrics

[Verse]
In the dungeon dark
'Round twenty floors down
A dangerous monster
Can there be found

[Prechorus]
The look in her eye
Can petrify
A warrior to stone

[Chorus]
Medusa, the Gorgon who
Has snakes in place of hair
Don't meet her gaze, or you'll turn into
A statue in her lair

[Verse]
You'd best proceed
With a mirrored shield
A knapsack and
A sword to wield

[Prechorus]
The look in her eye
Can petrify
A warrior to stone

[Chorus]
Medusa, the Gorgon who
Has snakes in place of hair
Don't meet her gaze, or you'll turn into
A statue in her lair

Medusa, the woman who
All heroes best beware
Don't meet her gaze, or you'll turn into
A statue in her lair

@kristi

Great drama in this! I think this would be great on stage. I can see it all. Really fine expressions in the piano, vocal and story. They work so well together.

I love the vocals and piano rhythm in this one!! Nice work you two. This is amazingly creative and moody.

Thank you so much Cola for your brilliant lyrics and vocals!

@cola

Demo added!

Brilliant dark lyric Cola. I've sent you my message regarding possible music if you are still looking for a collaboration.

Just come here from "breaking news" and wondering why, given what you did there, you have this tagged #needs_music ! Yes, would lend itself to folk, very drunken sea-folk, with a boisterous shouted chorus.

@panch

Nice rhythm in the lyrics and an interesting take on the prompt. I hear a folky thing in 6/8 to this.

@jtsteam

Oh this is a good idea for the prompt, to come up with a mythical creature who really (for some value of 'really') did have looks that could kill! Nice one.

This is a fun take on the prompt! I heard this in a very big production 60s/70s Shirley Bassey kind of way.

@tjeff

Fun lyric, and excellent take on the prompt! I enjoyed reading it!

[avatar]

Fine take on the prompt from the Goth milieu. I hear low pitched drums and fire breathing dragons!

My son's gonna love this one - a Percy Jackson fan. 😊 Cool take on the topic!

nice one! creative and fun!
....always wondered how Medusa got a haircut :)

@sheslin

What a cool take on the prompt! The is literally a scenario where looks can kill - well done! It is a great story with a warning song. Good imagery and rhyming.

Great and different take on the prompt! Well done!

[avatar]

This has a great sea shanty feel to it and the images and story telling are perfect! What a creative and clever unique take on the skirmish prompt!

Yes, good lyric based on the mythology. Very descriptive, makes a good narritive.
