Fighting Inertia

Liner Notes

I managed to do 5 songs in my first week of 50/90, and then I went on vacation, and then had a week of trying to get myself back mentally. Now is the first time that I've had a little brain space (and the heat has abated a little), so I decided to continue my adventures in using loops and samples in my DAW and just see what comes up. The title is obviously from what I was trying to do here.

I got on a bit of a percussion path here, and wanted to use a lot of cool, plunky type of instruments. Again, another exercise to help push me along.

Oh, I love this jazzy intro! And then all the organized chaos that happens after. It's like being in the world's best arcade with bells ringing and lights sparkling everywhere. I bet this was fun to put together.

This is so entertaining. I like the peppy spirit over the bass. Lots of different goodies to capture my attention. Very cool song.

I love the movement created by changing up the loops. It feels like you are taking us on journey. And the ride is wonderful.

Very funky and satisfying listen. Not certain if this is 100% compilation of loops but either way it works really well. You mix it all up nicely with different elements/loops coming and going throughout.

Lovely! You had me smiling on the first few notes! It's also amazing to see how comtortable you're getting with your DAW!

Oh this is synth ear candy! Love all your choices. I really like the percussive feel throughout. The marimba sounds is so cool.

wonderfully detailed and funky and fun- love those clavinet-sounding keyboard lines with the distant bells/celestas and fingersnap-y percussion and bass. Very impressive virtual work there!

The title fooled me, led me to expect something sadder sounding. But this is very bright and fun and definitely worth doing something later that extends it into a full-on song.

Ooh, yummy funk. I really like how the different sections fit together to create a groovy sonic journey. Those bell synths are smooth and dreamy without losing any of the energy. And then there’s that beat, so satisfying and dancey.

@jeff9

This is so very cool sounding. Almost a tiny taste of Japanese folk music in places to go along with the delicious poppy funkiness. Might even be worth trying to come up with a sparse top line for a vocal.

This is cool. And I love that this makes me feel happy. I have a hard time writing happy sounding songs and you've managed to nail it in such a cool way. That bass line really fills out the arrangement, too.

Indeed, very contemporary, I dig that baseline and the bells! Great mix.

@nadine

This is a cool draft that could go super nuts with a funk guitarist and a heavy beat. Same as David I can imagine some contemporary pop or rnb.

[avatar]

Great mix of that funky clavinet sound and the plinky plonky xylophone. Feels v contemporary, could imagine a modern pop melody over that! Nice experimenting.

nice - welcome back! i love those xylophones jamming and that toy piano sound. totally get the fighting inertia sentiment - Keep on messing about!

@candle

Oh yeah, this is funky with some really cool pads & synths adding some interesting textures & melodies. Very cool experiment in your DAW, Ken! Keep it up!
