One More Beer (Then I'll Go Home)

by @jtsteam

Liner Notes

I thought I'd have a go at writing a #drinking song. Of course, this is in no way autobiographical. Nothing like this has ever happened to me. I can prove it, because I'd eat crisps rather than nuts and I don't like kebabs, officer.

Anyway, it's a bit of #ukulele #folk.

Lyrics

Thank the Lord it's 5pm
I thought that meeting wouldn't end
So before I go home to eat
I think I've earned a little treat

I'll have One beer then I'll go home
One beer then I'll go home
Just one beer, the bus'll soon be here,
I'll have one beer then I'll go home

I've got my pint of IPA
It's a gentle way to end the day
Do the crossword, eat a pack of nuts
Oops, I think I missed the bus

I suppose I'll have One more beer then I'll go home
One more beer then I'll go home
Just one more, then I'll walk out the door,
I'll have one more beer then I'll go home

Dave just waved at me and smiled
I haven't seen him for a while
I'll wander over for a chat
Just another pint, and then that's that

I'll have One more beer then I'll go home
One more beer then I'll go home
Just one more, then I'll walk out the door,
I'll have one more beer then I'll go home

A band's now lugging in their rig
I didn't realise there would be a gig
I'll hear a couple of their songs
I won't stay very long

I'll just have One more beer then I'll go home
One more beer then I'll go home
Just one more, then I'll walk out the door,
I'll have one more beer then I'll go home

One more beer then I'll go home
One more beer then I'll go home
Just one more, then I'll walk out the door,
Just one quickly, then finish with a whisky,
Maybe a kebab then I'll call a cab
I'll have one more beer then I'll go home
One more beer then I'll go home

I like the melody and your singing. The story is a lot of fun but, by the end, I wasn't so sure about the "walk out the door" part. (Crawling, perhaps. 😀 )

@cblack

Loved it. I can definitely relate. 😀

Ha! Fun song! Good thing the protagonist talked of cabs and busses. I wrote a drinking song and the Nashville guys loved it except for the “Grabbing my keys” line. Ooops! But taking that out ruined the song. I could never get it right.

Very entertaining. I like the classic sound of the track matched with the easy, carefree vibe of the vocal. The story unfolds in such a fun fashion. What's funny is that when I read the lyrics I didn't realize y'all pronounce kebab like cab, so when I heard you sing it, it made that line super enjoyable. I love a good internal rhyme. And with it coming on the heels of quickly/whisky I was smiling in delight. :P

How catchy! My toes are tapping and I'm smiling. Love it!

I've been there - not lately, thank goodness. (I do like an IPA!)
Charming song - a hint of melancholy (or maybe that's my nostalgia for the cozy feel of a barroom). Wonderful images in the lyrics, and some gentle good humor in the vocal. And harmonica - nice touch!
