Algorithm our new rhythm

by @mikeskliar

Liner Notes

I had my lap-style #dobro #resonator guitar out from recording the last song, and decided I would try a fingerpicked-style one, with a less 'bluesy' chord pattern.

As for the lyrics, they were inspired by all those ads we're all getting on our facebook or instagram (or pick your social media, I guess) feeds...

Lyrics

I buy, you sell
I come calling when you ring that bell
You analyze my shopping patterns
I come across a sale and think it just happens

Privacy? Not so much anymore
Algorithms, our new rhythm for sure
They know things we can’t even explain
Including what goes on inside your brain

click an ad for skinny jeans once, and guaranteed
Every boy band outfitter will be on your feed
Did it happen to me once, I have to confess
Did I buy the faux-leather ones? Take a guess

I buy, you sell
I come calling when you ring that bell
You analyze my shopping patterns
I come across a sale and think it just happens

Mike - I like that talking style. Feels like I'm bouncing around with the bits and bytes inside the computer model of the inside of your head...And the way that the chords just go back and forth like rats in a maze, but in a good way. Nice work.

@nadine

I just noticed how I fall for slides. That dobro is super cool and give this social critism a cynic note. I love that. The lyrics are clever and true. Thank you for raising the awareness. @nancycunning also did with "Feed the algorithm", which is a super fun collab btw.

Oh my goodness, this is so awesome!

Cool feel. The sliding chords are so cool - you would expect this to be some kind of synthesizer song based on the subject, but you made me feel that techno-disorientation with a guitar that wasn't even plugged in. Fun and cool tune.

Algorithms. been hearing that word a lot lately. so i thought id check out your song to find out what it means. couldnt get a definition from the song, so i went to the dictionary and found it was coined in the 9th century to mean any kind og a step by step procedure. still dont know what people today mean by it..but it surely does not refer to a recipe for a pumpkin pie.
