I was looking over David's collection and saw that for some reason, nobody had picked up what I thought was a really awesome lyric he co-wrote with Vaughan so I asked to take a run at putting it to music. Hope this treatment does justice to the lyric and these songwriters.

Lyrics

Fifty Years
Lyrics - David L. Graham/Vaughan Ray Daniel
Music - Jeff Walker

Hey old man what are we celebrating?
'cause Whatever it is I'll raise a glass to that
He said, boy, I am here
'cause I've been married 50 years
Then he said something that kinda made me laugh

chorus:
I spent 3 years with Cheryl
2 years with Carol
And I was true to Betty for 10
I gave 15 to Mary
And another 15 to Carey
Those last 5 with Jane just came and went
50 years and I'd do 'em all again

Cheryl and I were much too young to start with
Carol always had a roving eye
Betty, Mary & Carey
Gave me children and were very
Good women but I told them all goodbye
tag: Last year Carey died

repeat chorus:

bridge:
Fifty years is fifty years
Filled with laughter and tears
It's true relationships don't always work
There were those I left behind
But I finally got it right
The mistakes I made
Love always seemed to cure
tag: For better or worse

repeat chorus:

Yes, a really good country song, very clever lyrics and very nice performance.

A really clever and original lyrical concept from @mctown and @vaughan given the perfect berth by @jeff9
Loved the cracked emotion in the vocal...

Thank you, Jeff!! My wife and I always joke about how we've been married 50 years, just not to the same people. It's good to get it right, finally! lol. This was sooooo good. Knocked it out of the park! Thanks to all who gave it a listen and your kind comments.

Interesting twist on 50 years of marriage. Entertaining lyrics and musical production.

Really lovely. Just a lovely classic country feel. What else is there to say - clever and really well done. And so not cliche while still being authentic.

I loved these lyrics when I first saw them. So glad you put them to music. This is sooooo classic 90s Country. I can hear George Strait singing this back in the day. There must be some renegade contemporary country artist who would cut this song with this demo!

What a great story with both humor and a little sadness! I'm so happy this all came together. Love it!

A whole lifetime wrapped in 3 minutes. Impressive performance of a wonderful tune. Great lyrics with a pleasing kind of weariness that's still positive and content as it looks back at an eventful life.
