Witches, Woo, and Wyrd #Magick Folks
Hey, folks! @beacon started this in FAWM and gave me the OK to post here. For all who may be writing songs about #Magick, please take them and share here! We chose this tag to be as all-encompassing as possible, since not everyone specifically identifies as pagan, Wiccan, or (insert personal belief system here). That said, the song topics can be wide-ranging:
Wheel of the Year? Sounds good!
Forest bathing and foraging? Excellent!
Rampaging goddesses avenging the long-suffering millions oppressed by the patriarchy? HEL-TO-THE-YEAH! ;)
You get the picture. Blessed writing!
I've written a couple of pagan-ish First Fruits songs in the past (one for FAWM and one for 50/90, so I was vagueing Imbolc and either Litha/Midsummer or Lammas/Lughnasadh), and also did one for the Tarot challenge that was really good but SO MUCH research.
Also I've been very interested in writing songs for D&D Bards and other music-based magic-users, so I've done a couple of those. I know that's not quite the same thing, but my goal is to write songs that could potentially be used both for gaming and for actual magickal practice, depending on the singer's intentions. Empire LARP has an actual music-based magic system that seems to be designed for instrumental groups that I want to try adapting to vocals.
Anyways I might do something along those kinds of lines at some point this 50/90 but I'm afraid I have no way of knowing what songs I'm actually going to write until I write them. I need to get to the rest of the Wheel of the Year eventually though. And it occurs to me, now that I think about it, that maybe some songs for the phases of the moon could help me remember how to work with them. That could be really useful right now.
Oh I’ll definitely join. I’m quite interested in green magic and shadow work and that kind of stuff.
These days I identify as an animist, though I've previously identified as a number of other things. I'm definitely involved in a variety of magick.
@complexissimple One of my specialties is lyrical improvisation, so my concept of an old-fashioned bard is quite unlike what a lot of people tend to think of. If I have need of a song I can just start singing it. I'd love to have such functionality in a TT RPG.
Music is magic
& singing is praying twice
Hmmm... I like fantasy novels. David
Much of my early songwriting (from 10-20 years ago) was Pagan/Magickal-themed. Realizing with this thread that, in the 50/90's in my file, only two of thirty-three are that...time to come back to writing from my home base, it seems. Thanks for the reminder - & when I get those off the ground, I will so land them here. Looking forward to enjoying what others have shared in this circle!
I already posted this in the autocorrect thread, but I was taking notes on the historical practices of Lughnasadh and tried to type "there was also feasting", but instead of feasting apparently there was farting, Crafting, creating, and then farting again. At least according to the several tries it took to get the right word from my phone. So if anyone wants to write a song about farting at Lughnasadh, feel free.
