The Recommended Songs thread:
Found a song you'd like to share? Please do. Post the link to the song so others can enjoy it as well.
🚨 tangential question 🚨 — i've long considered a "hype" feature (sorta like a "retweet" or "share") where fawmers can "recommend" gems that they find.
like this thread, but built-in.
i was curious if people think they would like that, or if there was something special about the low-tech humanity of this thread... even although it can become a bit unwieldy over time 😅
@burrsettles id love to see a 'retweet' type feature - maybe appearing as a 'currently recommending' on my profile - and when i 'retweet' another it replaces it?
but in the spirit of the Lo-Fi thread, heres something gorgeous by @expendablefriend - https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/348
If it's organised in a different space / feed I'm in. But since I follow 50+ people my song feed would be too much! This is what annoys me on SoundCloud...
@burrsettles I agree that it could be a fun feature if it was located in profile spaces or within another feed to avoid clutter. And if it was on a separate feed, a useful option might be the ability to view songs recommended by people on my watchlist OR songs recommended by all FAWMers (I wouldn't want to miss out on a great song just because the recommender isn't on my watchlist!). However, one thing I do enjoy about the thread is that there is often some commentary that goes along with the rec's (i.e. not just "I liked this song," but "I liked this song because...").
@burrsettles My dream is a jukebox that has a playlist function. Have an option much like the old favorites selection where all contributors can add to the "recommended" playlist.
That being said, I completely understand how the jukebox is not high on the list of features and could be a headache. Maybe add a section to the stuff on the right side of the screen which highlights songs that have been recommended or saved. Which would require having a save feature on songs that would put it in our own personal list. Which I quite like, btw.
At any rate, your idea is a good one, but I'm perfectly happy scrolling through the thread.
This @wobbiewobbit / @richaaaay effort had me smiling from start to finish: https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/1113
@burrsettles the hype button sounds like a great addition, maybe with the caveat that you wouldn't want it to become too central or all-consuming or indeed divisive (as it is on certain social media platforms that shall remain nameless). On a related note, can I just say I've really enjoyed the 'Songs to check out' links in my sidebar. That's surfaced quite a few FAWMers who I wasn't previously following and now am!
Insanely good ear candy here from @spirulence in collaboration with @cicpisces and some terrifically original lyrics: https://hamsandwichquantum.party/fiftyninety/2022/06_ace_of_hearts.mp3
