Hi! For a year and a half or so I've been running a local Zoom chat on Tuesday nights.
It's 9pm to midnight, Eastern time. (The same as New York.) Long enough to fit in with a lot US folks.
We totally welcome folks from anywhere, but timezones are a thing and 3 hours is about my limit for a call. That said, I welcome someone in a different time zone to start one up. (There's Jitsi if folks don't want to use Zoom.)
Topic: FAWM: Tuesday Night Music Club
Time: This is a recurring meeting
Meeting ID: 849 7577 2525
Passcode: Jenny's number
You can connect without being signed in to Zoom, so you can connect anonymously. The passcode is Jenny's number, from an old song that was popular in the US. (I would have baked the passcode in to the link, but the 50/90 forum is public.)
omg blessss, i only attended one of these during fawm season this year, but my tuesdays have freed up a bit & i'm so hyped to partake this summer! 😄
This isn't done just during FAWM and 50/90. It's literally been going every week since the 2021 FAWM when it was started by @swampjaw.
Talking about music stuff is always preferred, but if you talk about non-music stuff you want to keep it to things that you can directly influence, so avoid the stuff that we can only be mad about. (For instance, talking about personal health is fine, but talking about general pandemic stuff is less than fine.)
There's enough places to find out information on scary, depressing, anger-making stuff. Nobody needs that when getting together with friends.
For the folks in to this sort of thing, this is Circle of Concern versus Circle of Influence stuff. If we focus on stuff we can influence, it is better for mental health and it keeps the mood friendly, welcoming, and uplifting.
I said this last year, but I’m really going to try hopping onto at least some of these. I certainly could use as many uplifting, low-stress gatherings with friends as I can get these days!
It irritates me that I have obligations on Tuesdays that I can't really get out of so I don't get to spend as much time in the chat as I'd like. But I do the best I can.
@complexissimple Hah! That was me that said that. I just know you're pretty active on this site so finally meeting you in (virtual) person was cool. Sorry if I weirded you out, sometimes I say the quiet parts loud and out of context 😬
@gardeningangel1 Not weirded out, just endlessly curious. Speaking of which, I have a follow-up question: Do you mean I've been active in general, like over the course of several years maybe, or is it because so far this 50/90 I've been obsessively checking the forums night and day and making extremely wordy new challenges?
As I live in an area with only one other FAWM/5090'er, it is very helpful for me to meet more of this community and talk songwriting. Thanks again and as always for hosting @yam655!
@complexissimple I suppose with fewer people around, it's easier to stand out. But I remember your name from last fawm if not longer (no pfp's got me a little discombobulated ((but I'm not complaining, I kind of like being a banjo.)) You've got some great challenges! Just reading the descriptions gets me inspired. As for obsessively checking the forums... is there any other way?
This is happening in about 90 minutes, so giving it a bumpity-bump-bump!
Please remember to bring your happy topics of discussion. We're fortunate that @yam655 is kind enough to share this space with us, so let's leave politics, pandemics and... *gestures broadly*... All Of The 2020s to our protest songs. Thanks!
Again I will say, please bring your HAPPY AND POSITIVE topics of discussion. We are very fortunate that @yam655 provides this space and for many of us, it is a welcome respite from the real world. Please try to keep it upbeat. Thanks!
