This worked out really well in FAWM 2022 as a last minute thing, so hopefully we'll be able to do it with a little more time and space here in 50/90.
Think about the trend with the Wellerman a year or two ago, when one person posted a video, and then everyone started adding their own harmonies to it. Like that.
I figured out what we need is:
1. A lyricist to give us a words. Preferably shorter, punchier lines with rhymes that will work well for choruses.
2. Someone to write the music. Think people got that.
3. Someone to record the original acapella melody.
4. (through infinity) Harmony singers to add more parts
5. A stitcher to put it together and post it.
If you're up for one or more of these roles, comment below with what you're up for, and I'll try to set up the groups.
Great for those who have already responded, but please let me know what parts you're interested in. I've done all 5, but I'd rather someone else do parts 2 and 3 for some of them, as I want to do the harmony goodness.
Okay gang, I think we have at least enough people to get this started. I'll start posting teams for songs and have those of you on the same team to figure out for yourself how you're going to move it forward. I figured I'm going to limit it for right now to 3 harmony parts. We can certainly do more in the future.
@kahlo2013 contact @complexissimple about the lyrics, as I'm just doing a harmony part. They will be doing the melody so they need to see it more than me at this point. I'm just going to do the harmony on this one.
I tried to record this so many times today I just about lost my voice. The app I was trying to use just isn't working. I'm going to have to download a new one and try again tomorrow. Does anyone have any good recommendations for audio recording apps for Android?
That sounds great to me. Thanks for organizing @beacon. I've put together three lyrics that I think might work. @carleybaer - you can see if any of them feel right to you, just let me know where to send them.
I just checked my e-mail to see how @didi_bergman is coming along, and it looks like we may have stalled out on Song 2 because we're not sure if there's supposed to be a backing track or not. @beacon, can you clarify?
@complexissimple, the way we did this before is that the melody writer (you in this case) would just write a melody and record it acapella, and then send it to the next person to add a harmony. Make sense?
Okay, my part is done for song 1! I've uploaded 3 files. Right-clicking should be able to download them. 😀 The one labeled "3 people" is going to @cleanshoes, as that's the current combined thing. Then for our lovely stitcher @jamkar, the other 2 files are my solo vocals - 1 without any processing, 1 with some light compression and EQ. Do with them as thou wilt. 😀
The other link is where you can find the lyrics. Links:
@complexissimple I'm working on it but may only be able to record choruses as I can't key in to the first two lines which are ornamented. Is it ok to just do the choruses? The melody is playing on repeat in my head so given a few days I may get the hang of the verses.
@didi_bergman I'm pretty sure you can sing only the choruses if you want, but it's up to you and what you prefer. I'm also pretty sure that we have a few days to spare for you to figure it out, so take your time if you need to.
@didi_bergman Yes, just sing the choruses if that is what you can feel comfortable with. Remember this is all for fun and we're all trying to add something together to make more than what just one of us could do.
Thank you @complexissimple and @beacon I should have it in a few days. I put it in Cubase and stretched the visualisation of the audio on there so I know when the next word is coming or the first word of the next verse. I also picked out the melody on piano, it's a tricky key for me to sing thirds but I have almost nailed those first few lines, a couple of days should do it. Is there a deadline?
Ok so just to clarify (sorry, it's been a busy summer)... I'll record an a cappella melody and no backing track, and then the harmony singers will do their thing and send it back to me to stitch, right?
Hey y’all, tbh I don’t know if I’m going to make it on time. Life really threw me a curveball and I’ve been battling a lot of mental health stuff. Sorry to drop the ball but I don’t want to let anyone down. @beacon is it ok if I just send you what @didi_bergman sent me?
Hey, @robynmackenzie has sent me the file, and I'll look to add my part to it and stitch up Song 2. If anyone else would like to add a harmony, let me know. granted, I'm a harmony junky and might add two lines to it.
