Where’s my Michigan Peeps?

How many of the Michigan FAWMers are back for the 50/90 summer chaos?

@toms

Hey Stuart, hope you are doing well! I'm shooting for only 12-15 songs this round. :)

Stuart, cleverly sidestepping the Michiganian (yay) vs. Michigander (boo) dispute...

Hey Tom and Rod, glad you’re back. My 50/90 goals are modest as well, though I’m at 4.5 for the past week and it hasn’t even started yet.

Rod, I didn’t realize it was that controversial. Being Canadian I claim cultural ignorance. 🤣

“What up doe.” I was just sitting here washing down a couple coneys with a Vernor’s while listening to a Stevie Wonder record and playing euchre in my Buddy’s finished basement when I saw this post. Go Wings.

Glad to see y'all back for another summer of song.

As for the nickname, I’ve never cared for either and alternate between the least cringey of the two. The problem I have with ‘Michiganian’ is ‘Michigan’ does not contain a long A vowel. It doesn’t contain the short vowel (like “bat”) either but it sounds way weirder than Michigander and costs one more syllable.

Michigander, on the other hand ✋, contains the word “gander,” which is pretty cool. It’s kind of a nod to our Canadian neighbors to the north (and south) and if we’re going to nod to a neighbor, I want it to be Ontario.

Is the bit of history about Lincoln using 'gander as an insult true?

@jeustan I am in fact drinking a Vernors at this very moment. But now I want a looseburger, b/c I never really like coneys, but looseburgers, lots of mustard and onions, mmmm.....but it MUST be made with actual lard or it's not as good...

@stuartbenbow 4.5!!! Wild how that happens. Awesome!

@toms From the 100% reliable search result sources I just read, it was printed in a travel guide that added '-er' to everything before Abe scorched his opponent by calling him a silly goose. I think you could file this one adjacent to "Detroit vs Everybody."

Edit: yeah dude onions and mustard on everything. Cheers.

I am here.
Have some ideas already and hope to get a fair amount... probably nowhere near 50 though. Later.

I'm here.

Let the good times roll. Looks like the Michigan songwriters are coming out in droves. @Toms, I've got one tune that's being stubborn. Lyrics are a skeleton that isn't quite working right, and the music arrangement feels wrong for it. The bones are there but it's not even fawm ready to my mind. Thus 4.5.

Hey, here's a new Michigan FAWMer! Hi, @bullyhendrix !!

What’s going on! Glad to be here to connect with everyone

Hey Mitten peeps, how goes it?!

I wrote a old timey tribute to the Coney Dog for a skirmish. Backhanded compliments to Ohio and Chicago cuisines have been noted - https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/2340

My fav coney—Roy's Squeeze Inn in Ypsi or Lafayette. What's yours?

@toms

There was a coney in downtown Birmingham, MI, when I was growing up in the 70s, that had the most amazing loose burgers. Lunch almost every day for 2 summers in a row. Good golly, haven't had one in years, and now I am totally craving one or three.
Edit: I had no idea that there was such a thing as Flint style (vs. Detroit style) prior to moving to Flint 22 years ago... 😀
