I'm Jeff (he/him) and have been FAWMing since 2017 (joined in 2016 but ended up not participating!). I found 50/90 in 2018. Looking forward to another one!

My wife and I are thoroughly enjoying our move earlier this year to Harlem! New York City suits us well and we are glad to be resuming life as New Yorkers after 25 years!! I particularly love bicycling around town, and observing the hustle and bustle of the city!

I've developed osteoarthritis in my left hand due to a sports injury years ago, and I started this 50/90 with the intention to give the guitar a rest due to hand pain when playing. Well, that only lasted a couple weeks lol, as I've broken out the guitar, pain be damned!! She was calling my name, so I'm starting to play again. I hate that there are some chord shapes that I just can't make, but I'm happy, happy to be strumming again!

Click on the Spotify link above to check out tunes from my first album, as well as a single from an upcoming album with John (coolparadiso) as the group Fifteen Hours.

Gear list: Martin 000-10e guitar, Korg D1 piano, Cubase DAW on a Dell gaming laptop (primary VST: Spectrasonics Keyscape), AT2020 & AT2021 condenser mics.

Just a note to say I have put up a demo for my song "Racing Against Time" that you kindly commented on when it was just lyrics only.

https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/11326

[avatar]

Excellent. Thanks for letting me know!

[avatar]

That's 10am European time, then, isn't it?

[avatar]

I'll take the 9am one
"G"

[avatar]

Hi Jeff
I am on Central European time. So what time are those Skirmishes you need a host for?

[avatar]

Hey, Jeff - Just listened to your song If I Make It to the Future. It's great. Thanks so much for hosting the Super Skirmishing. I'm traveling today and tomorrow, so I won't get to do as much as I'd like to. I would love to do some collaborating in February if you're up for it.

[avatar]
@wacha

Hey Jeff, I hate to do this last minute but something came up and I'm not sure I can host the skirmish tomorrow at 9. I am so sorry, I was looking forward to being a part of it.

[avatar]

Excellent. Thanks so much for organizing this!

[avatar]
@andrea

Perfect. Thank you :)

[avatar]
@mctown

Cool, could you send me wav files... no vocal versions as well.. wetransfer mctownmusic@gmail.com Friday or so... ?

[avatar]

Thanks Jeff :)

It's always a wonderful feeling for me when I get the inspiration for a lyric. So rewarding, too, to this lyricist, is writing it and bringing it to completion--so that it can be posted for others to hopefully enjoy and get something out of that touches them, or makes them think, in some way. Priceless, though, is when those lyrics of mine are read by another and seen in a way that that other feels need to turn them in song. That was Jeff, in the case of my "When You're Loved" lyric. He had commented on one of my other lyrics, I in turn asked if he wanted to put music to that one, we agreed, but he later saw "When You're Loved" and asked to put those lyrics to song instead.

Wonderful choice, Jeff, because the demo you posted of my "When You're Loved" lyric is phenomenal! It's light, sharp Don Henley Eagles-like song sound is awesome along with your rhythm guitar strum and crisp vocals! Love what you did with the chorus and the harmonies, man. And that guitar solo after the bridge? Love it! Such a nice touch. Fab how it breaks things up just at the right time and moves the song into its next phase with some fantastic full, sweet picking and strum. Gorgeous!

Really an over-the-top great job, Jeff! So pleased am I with what you produced here. Thanks so much for taking the time to read my lyric and for turning it into this lovely song. Can't thank you enough, man. All the best to you with your future songs, creations, and collabs!

[avatar]

Hi,
Yeah, happy for you to work on my Real Life lyric. Thanks

[avatar]

Cool, Jeff! No worries. Go for it! Thx for letting me know. Looking forward to that one then from you.

[avatar]

Hey mate, have not caught up for a while.
, all a bit tricky here with delays on motorhome and house. Thx for both sparrow and rattlesnake dreams, they are both excellent. You are always welcome to any lyric.

[avatar]

Thanks Jeff! I love both Tori and Kate, so those comparisons always make my day!!

[avatar]

Cool, Jeff! Looking forward to you infusing it with musical life!

[avatar]

Thank you for the lovely comments on Sunflowers. I t turned out nicely, and I was happy with that skirmish.

[avatar]

Hey Jeff, since "I'm Hooked" was the lyric that had you comment, why not go with that?

[avatar]

Have re-sent the email. Hopefully it comes through?

[avatar]

Thanks man, for checking out "I'm Hooked!" Had a blast writing that one. Cool that you dug it enough to comment so glowingly as you did on it. Appreciated. Collab? Care to add music and vocals?

[avatar]

Hi Jeff, I've emailed you a lyric as a possible candidate for our random collab song

[avatar]

Go for it Jeff

[avatar]

Hi Jeff,
I see that we've been paired up in the latest Random Collaborations round. I'll see if I can come up with a lyric to send to you. Let me know if there's any particular topic that you'd like me to consider?

@mikeb

Thanks for the comments on 'Paper Man' and 'Wondering'!

[avatar]

Thanks again! I think In the Dust could be in a movie or something!

[avatar]

Yes, thats fine with me! Looking forward to it!

[avatar]

Dear Jeff, Thank you so much for the wonderful morph “when love is real” I love the nuanced changes to the lyric and the gorgeous music! Such a tender ballad you created!

[avatar]

Also Jeff you asked if you could do "out of the window" and I said yup. You are still welcome if you wish

[avatar]

Go for it Jeff

[avatar]

Hey Jeff! I plan on finishing up our collab with @Mctown over Labor Day weekend break. I've been letting ideas incubate for awhile and I hope you'll like them!

[avatar]

Thanks for your comments on "The Book Title Mystery". I'm so glad you liked the bass sound. I just put that together Saturday and I'm pretty pleased with it. Haven't got the portamento working yet but that will come when needed.

[avatar]

Great!

[avatar]

Hi there. Wondered if you d be interested in my In the Dust lyric?

[avatar]

Hi Jeff,

Glad you liked my "Revenge for Love" song

Here's a picture of the six string tenor
https://tinyurl.com/347whm59

It is tuned in four courses like an ordinary ukulele CGEA - but not all the strings are doubled or octaves (as they are on the eight string uke). The high A is doubled, the E is single, the G is doubled but in octaves and the C is single. It has a very distinctive sound unlike any other in the family.

[avatar]

Thank you for listening to my skirmish song. I'm glad you liked it! And the answer to the question "Harmonica or keyboard?" is, "Yes 😆" I had Band-in-a-Box whip up the bridge for me, and then tried several different (digital) instruments before deciding the harmonica sounded best. I briefly reconsidered re-recording it with a (physical) harmonica, and might have actually done it if I had known where my harmonica in the proper key was.

[avatar]

When I recorded summers at the quarry I thought oh maybe I should give this to Jeff :-) hey I'm working on another one!

[avatar]
@toms

thank you for the listen & kind comments! There is a mini version of DALL-E that is free and you don't have to wait to be accepted as a user. Pictures are only 256x256, but it'll give you an idea of how it works. I've also signed up to use some of the others that do much the same thing, but I found DALL-E some months ago because I was playing with the OpenAI stuff. As a teacher, all I can say is, maaaaannn, it'd be so easy to plagiarize stuff these days. https://www.craiyon.com/

[avatar]

Thanks for your comments on my Band of Brothers lyrics. Great to hear that you like it. And yes, the guys in the Rolling Stones have certainly led exciting lives!

[avatar]
@fonte

Thanks for your lovely comment :-) Means a lot! I am coming back to listen more soon :-)

[avatar]

@tjeff, adding my thanks to you for your comments on Come Back. I was eager to try this technique and I was happy that David knew how to pull it off. Glad you liked it, too.

[avatar]

Jeff, thanks so much for the comment on Come Back! Totally agree on the verse/chorus thing - I’m almost always trapped in the same box. Needed Patty to drag me out of it 😂

[avatar]
@sbs2018

Thank you for your awesome comments - so appreciated!

[avatar]

Thanks very much for your wonderfully positive and kind comment on Bubbles :)

[avatar]
@sheslin

On the inside is in drop C, since I tune my guitar down a whole step! Well done. It is hard to guess tunings. Thanks so much for your lovely feedback!!

[avatar]

Hi, Jeff, Loved the reference to Peaky Blinders in your comment about Inconvenient Lovers. Yes, I can see why you'd say that. Georgie and Gwyn's duet is right out of that period, yet sounds contemporary, as well. Quite a trick. Thanks for listening.

[avatar]
@candle

Hey Jeff, thanks for the great comment on Slow Dance. The two guitar parts were played live-to-tape thanks to the Mobius VST Looper. I looped the initial riff & then "noodled" on top of it. I control the Mobius via my MIDI Foot Controller & added the distorted tone to the original guitar tone with my DigiTech Grunge Pedal to create the lead lines. So yes, in a round-about way, I was using pedals to allow me to play this different guitar parts. Hope that answers your question.

See You In The Shadows…

[avatar]

Thank you so much Jeff for every beautiful comment you so kindly posted on my submissions. I appreciate your support.

[avatar]

Great Jeff!

[avatar]

Hi. I wondered if you have time, if you'd like my Beneath the Full Moon?

[avatar]

Thanks, Jeff, for taking on the Rhubarb Riddle!

[avatar]

Hi Jeff, I've sent you my email. If you don't see it please kindly check your spam folder as some messages occasionally land there. Thank you.

[avatar]

Hey new random collab partner - nice to meet you! I'm listed as lyrics on this go round, so I'll get some lyrics together tomorrow and send them to your gmail, if that's okay? Looking forward to working with you!

[avatar]

Thanks for the comments on Running with Wolves - amazing what a few words of a title can provoke in your mind!

[avatar]

Jeff, Thanks for your compliments on Baby, What About Me. I think Georgie did a great job , and the Reba reference is spot on. I will enjoy listening to your music. Guitars are great, but piano may be my fave.

[avatar]

Hey Jeff!! It would be cool to have a song with your trumpet!! I've never worked with that instrument before. Do you want to do something jazzy? Let me know!

[avatar]

Jeff i am on the move tomorrow, when i am away will try and write a couple of lyrics for your perusual on one of our favoured topics!

[avatar]

i thought that bit at the end of the first verse was from les miz, but maybe it was 200 motels.

[avatar]

Hi Jeff, sorry to read about your left hand but glad you can play the piano and other instruments. Looking forward to hearing your new songs. Always happy to collaborate.
