[...]

Lyricist who drifts between gazing into the navel and the soul.

#Pronouns: He/him
#Preferred_pronoun: You (I'd rather be talked to than about)
#Constructive_criticism: Welcomed

#Collaboration_policy:
My lyrics should not be assumed to be exclusive (too many excellent multiple takes). However, if you are not the first to claim a lyric, I recommend checking with the other FAWMer(s) that they're OK with you jumping on board. Similarly, you can quietly ask me if you want exclusive rights to do a demo for a song, and I will likely grant you that.

15 years! 15 years I've been drinking from this well of madness. My FAWM account is old enough to apply for a driver's license. Fortunately, I am yet to have a hit.

@beacon

I'd love to do something more with Can You! I have to go back and work more on it, but I do love that piece. Just let me know some timelines for when you'd be looking for something finished.

This 50/90 was sort of a "start strong and flame out early" session for me. Too many life stuff getting in the way and I just had to take a break (and probably will until the next FAWM!)

[avatar]
@beacon

Okay, so what's the good news for me for the next album?

[avatar]

Hey Stephen, I would be honored to collaborate with you; I am a big fan of your wonderful lyrics! Maybe FAWM 2023?

[avatar]

thanks for the info on that latest release being last year's stuff. When (hopefully when, not if!) you get to 2022's output, I hope you consider including 'my river goes with me', I think its possibly my favorite collab of just about anything I've done here......

[avatar]

Somehow, I thought Phoebe Kreutz might be up your street. I'm just sad I didn't think to mention her to you before.

[avatar]

Thank you for your thoughtful comments on River Ramblings, I really appreciate it!

[avatar]

"The ballad of throat culture" is my favourite of Phoebe Kreutz's songs. Others worthy of mention are "Oh Elizabeth I" and "Ass".

I think you will enjoy her work

@jeff9

Thank you most kindly, Sir Stephen, for the generous response to my effort to conjure some music to your poetic vignette, "Hot Chocolate". I'm thrilled that you liked it.

There's a thread here about collaboration "rules" and I'm learning that I may have been guilty of not being aware of some of them. One of them, I think, is that both collaborators should agree on the timing of the release of a collab effort, even if it's been agreed to, and I failed to check with you on this one before I released it into the wild. Apologies if that was inappropriate. Similarly on our "I'm Not Sick", one of the rules is apparently that if there are multiple collaborations going on about a piece of music or a lyric, that all parties in all those collabs should agree on whatever any of the others release. I'm not sure that one makes sense to me, but if that means I was out of bounds w/r/t your other collab partner @didi_bergman on that one, I plead nolo contendre and also apologize.

@beacon

"I Built A Bridge" is up! https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/5306

[avatar]

"More anxious than inspired". . . yeah, I can see that. It does sometimes feel like the pressure is on. I only wondered because I'm not sure I've ever seen one from you.

[avatar]

Apropos of nothing, do you ever write to a prompt?

[avatar]

glad you liked what I did with 'river'! Its funny, that accidental weird pronunciation of 'cataclysm' was not, as per your guess, a Freudian slip, saying 'Catechism' at all- being Jewish, I have no idea what a catechism is! (seriously, I've (barely) heard the word but wouldn't consciously use it) ...but was just my 'singing a lyric with alot of words at a fast clip & sometimes messing up what I'm singing'! so cataclysm became cata-whatever' ha! (well, that's what lyric sheets are for, I guess!) .Anyway, glad you dug- it was great to sing it, and that's one really impressive lyric, beautiful and wise.

[avatar]

and 'my river goes with me' is now live with music! (just a two way collab tho, as explained in the liner notes)

[avatar]

OKAY. DEMO DONE.

[avatar]

'my river goes with me' update--- I did my thing with it, and a certain other fawmer will add some special magic to it, if all works out, this weekend.. so look for something in about 5-7 days or so (maybe sooner), if thats ok?

[avatar]
@miga

thank for your comment on my melodica song, @stephenwordsmith. You certainly have a gift for painting word pictures and I can almost see myself in Paris (never been there, lol)!

[avatar]

Thank you Stephen! Your comment made my morning!!

[avatar]

Stephen, what a thoughtful comment on But I Did. I agree that Kate really showed off her skill with that spooky, yet soaring, delivery. I was delighted with it. And thank you, too, for your appreciation of certain lyric lines. Means a lot coming from you!

[avatar]
@mikeb

Thanks for the comment on my collab song with Simon!

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your thoughtful response to "Job Classification Poof" I did add the NSFW tag - fun to think that it could be inappropriate for work because of the message as well as the language. Looking forward to listening to more of your fantastic songs.

[avatar]

Thank you for your Always encouraging Words and comments.

[avatar]

"My river goes with me" will have some music! (It might be a three-way collab too, we'll see!) thanks! (to be continued)

[avatar]

Hi Stephen, I'm really glad you like my version of your song I'm Not Sick, and thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it. Great lyrics!

[avatar]

Thank you so much for the kind comments om the Lyrics to My son

[avatar]
@psyt

Wait wait wait, yet to have a hit? I must disagree, at the very least, Etude No. 11 - The Chicken is among my very favorite collaborations ever!

Also, hi Stephen. :)

[avatar]
@cheslain

Thank you for the in-depth comment. I'm glad you like the song.

I find your lyrics to have an inherent musicality, distincting them as song lyrics in particular rather than poetry. They have a naturally flowing rhyme and rhythm and even being phonetically pleasing to the ear. Not to mention nailing the elusive balance of form and substance. They are a pleasure to write music to, because there's no need for the problem solving of cramming an awkward line into a melody. Instead the musician is left with the much more gratifying task of dressing the words up in a way that does them justice and focusing on the emotion and tone of it all.

@jeff9

Wow, Stephen, I’m so thrilled to hear you liked my take on your fine lyric, “I’m Not Sick”. I think I flubbed a word or two, so sorry for that—I didn’t intend to rewrite your work. Thank you for the generous comments and for letting me have a go at it. It was a moving experience to inhabit a character delivering such poetry in song.

[avatar]

Hi Stephen, i sent you a sound file a couple of days ago and had no answer, I have sent it from the email dawnplanton0@gmail.com. If you don't like it please let me know, thank you

[avatar]

Hi Stephen, I have sent you a rough 'work in progress' version of I'm Not Sick, as I'm having problems with my DAW currently

[avatar]

Hi Stephen, do you have an email address I can send I'm Not Sick to when I've finished it please?

[avatar]

Thank you for your great feedback on Carolina Beaches - Pearl made some magic with the arrangement for sure!

[avatar]

Hi, Stephen, Thanks for your comments on Small Dreams. The music is posted now if you want to check it out. It was a pleasure working with @panch.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thanks, Stephen, for your kind words about “Clock Into Our Life”

[avatar]

Hi Stephen. Thank you so much for the kind comment, particularly on the lyrics - that really means a lot coming from you!

[avatar]

thanks for that amazing comment on the 'no god but you and me' song :)

[avatar]

Aww, thanks for the glorious words, mister smith. Wolves and the moon and a comedy routine for sure. I assume I'll steal all those nouns now. 😄

[avatar]
@cts

Fair enough. I’ll always keep a light on for ya!

[avatar]

Hello, Stephen! Thanks for your kind words on Turnip Turncoat! They brightened my breakfast. 😀

[avatar]

Hi Stephen--do you mean I'm to put music to existing lyrics? I hope so.

I'm still getting focused on 5090. I have some catching up to do in the forums. I'll get back to you as soon as I do.

[avatar]
@andrea

Thanks for your comments on It Wasn't Me. Your point about the red in the microwave has me thinking. I changed the color from bright red to blood red at the last minute. Do you think I should change it back? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks

[avatar]
@cts

Hey man - thanks so much for stopping by. I'm hoping to do a great deal of experimenting these next few months. If we can get something in the mix, I'm up for it. No pressure! 😄

[avatar]

Hi Stephen! Thanks again for the chance to work out music for Personals. Brilliant lyrics! One of the cases where music would be nothing without words. "Lonely notes / Seek words / To inspire / Sound / With Meaning". It's been an honor. 😊

[avatar]

Composer of poetic lines....I am happy to see you....write on....

[avatar]

Hmmm, I thought we could always delete posts? Or maybe we could just delete the content of the posts which left weird "empties" everywhere! At any rate I'll keep my head down and just write a few songs. Looking forward to reading your always awesome lyrics!

[avatar]

Hi Stephen! Glad to see you back again for year 15! I am on #10. Oh, and to answer your question re: my posts on the website feedback thread, I deleted them myself.

Have a great 50/90!

Hi Stephen
Have a nice 50/90
