@psyt

Thanks for the comment on Etude 52, and yes, you heard right that the drums are a mix of my acoustic kit and my usual programmed drums. The acoustics being the hihat, the toms, and the snare in this case, whereas in my previous few songs with the drums, I didn't use the hihat, but did use the kick.
The drums are a new instrument for me, I only got them in the beginning of September, and I'm pretty shocked I've been able to record them for my songs, I thought it'd take me much longer practicing to be able to do that.
To be fair, I still have to play and record them in smaller groupings, both because I'm only using a single mic, and not even taking care to position it particularly well or move it around, and because I'm not honestly able to play the whole kit at once yet, my mind still has to rewire quite a bit to be able to do that. (So I play and record 8 bars of kick and snare, then 8 bars of toms, then 8 bars of hats)

[avatar]
@nadine

I use the K271 for 15 years already. The K240 are also ace, but I prefer closed for mixing. I focus on songwriting during FAWM; the arrangement and mixing craze usually happens after the festival. Such a bummer most people won't hear the final mixes as most songs take months to be finished. But this summer, I wanted to get 1-2 songs done to the very end. "Mr. Tumbleweed" is one of them :)

[avatar]
@nadine

Wow, thanks for your comment! The whole band will be moved reading this. As producer, I'm so happy to hear that it works well on your headphones. I mixed it with my AKGs, nearly forgetting that I have two pair of speakers, too...

[avatar]

Thank you for your nice comment on "boss battle" !

Recently, I started Steelrising which is a soulslike. I'm kinda bad but so far, I'm doing ok. Really nice atmosphere so far. I wanted to try Nier but haven't got the time to play it yet. I heard it has a really nice story and an equally nice soundtrack. I hope I'll be able to play it this year after I finish other solo games

[avatar]
@cts

BTW - the bass line is an interpolation of White Horse by the group, Laid Back. Came out in the mid 80s. A lot of people in the Tidewater area (where I'm from originally) thought it was a remix of Erotic City.

[avatar]

Sade’s Lovers Rock is one of my all-time favorite albums. Thank you for the comparison, Splitty!! It made my day😀🎶

[avatar]

Anytime you wanna get in the studio you’re welcome here dude! Our couch is comfy and the dogs are friendly. Always ready to jam out here.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you! Your comment on "Deep Heart" makes me happy - And I second your words on Kate's singing. The song is final 😀
The "Quarterlife Blues" is still in recording, but it already sounds awesome! David and Andrea did such a great job here. I look forward to finishing it in the upcoming months and upload it to YouTube, Soundcloud, whatever.

[avatar]

Thanks for the extra kind words! Much appreciated.

[avatar]
@gm7

That was a walk down memory lane for you.....happy they were good ones..
Thx man my MegaMind main dog!..I'm just tagging along.

[avatar]

Loveable sad-sack. I'll take it! 😀

[avatar]
@gm7

Wow..Fatback! Loved working on that one.💥

[avatar]

Thank you for the kind words on my track "For a second i'm fine". I'm definitely submitting that track to youtube channels/playlists once it's up on Spotify!

[avatar]

You. Leave. Amazing. Comments. THANK YOU. I love video games. The last rhythm game I played was Cadence of Hyrule. I'll have to check it out. Have an awesome rest of your 50/90 marathon!! I'll be catching up on listening throughout the rest of Sept. and Oct. :)

[avatar]
@cts

Thanks! And I owe you because you reminded me that it doesn't always have to be about vocals. Really - thanks for that.

[avatar]
@cts

Yo Splits - the goods are in the Megamind folder...more specifically the CTS one that has INGREDIENTS. Whoever is going to mix this needs to let he DB-33 sit slightly beneath the guitar part. It elevates towards the end, though.

[avatar]
@gm7

Thx man...your comments are always positive and educational. I had to look up Bootsy and George..wow great stuff. I need to get some square glasses..lol
It always a great time working with CTS, he is so innovative, and the MegaMind group too . thx again
@megamind funky times ahead!!

[avatar]
@cts

It would...except I was not able to complete the assignment. I have asked for a different task.

[avatar]
@atam94

Oh man, I appreciate the kind words on "One Step Forward, Hand In Hand" so much. Honestly, I'd love to write music for indie games. Maybe it could be my next goal to pursue and perhaps get regular supplemental income or even turn it into a career at some point. I just started reading "A Composer's Guide To Game Music" and am hoping to find a way to break into the industry if possible.

I have been looking for a way to make a career move that involves music. My current job doesn't satisfy me at all. So if it works out one day, I'll be thanking you for getting me to consider making music for games. Also, I have a feeling you'd enjoy my instrumental album that I released on bandcamp and streaming services back in May. I'll leave a link here if you'd like to listen sometime: https://adamboehm94.bandcamp.com/album/summer-air

[avatar]

Thanks for leaving feedback on Look Sharp, glad you enjoyed it!

[avatar]

Massive thanks for taking the time to listen to 'For You', and all your commentary and feedback made for an enjoyable read! It was a track that would flit wildly between me liking it and then just having no sense of its worth. You wouldn't believe how much it makes a difference to know that at least one person likes it!! :)

[avatar]
@cts

LOL!!!!

[avatar]

...but Analog Lab *does* have the Odyssey's big brother, the 2600!

[avatar]

No Odyssey in Analog Lab, sadly. Discussing the Korg collection with you has got me thinking maybe I should grab a copy. Behringer do a hardware clone of the ARP these days that is dirt cheap and stays in tune considerably longer than my original does, but it'd be lovely to have a decent software version. They don't gather as much dust, and the ARP has a LOT of sliders...

[avatar]
@fonte

Hey thanks so much for your detailed and thoughtful comment, really really appreciate it thank you :-)

[avatar]
@brisk

ooh, thanks for the thoughtful comments on Popemobile, really appreciated. Would you recommend Slay the Spire by the way? I'm always looking to expand my collection of unplayed solo adventure games!

[avatar]

And that collection also has the MS-20. Flat Eric, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Flock of Seagulls, Aphex Twin and Autechre all used one. Brilliant synth (I have Arturia's version of it).

[avatar]

I've not got any of Korg's software modelled synths but if they're as good as Arturia's you won't be wasting your money. Their new collection has the ARP Odyssey, the Triton (as used by Terry Riley), the Mono/Poly and more as well as the M1, and they're all classic synths you'll have heard on hundreds of albums. The M1's piano is legendary (and built in to my M3). If you want to go old school, the Odyssey's what you want; I have a real Mk. 1 "whiteface" Odyssey from 1975, as played by Klaus Schulze, Jean-Michel Jarre and Edgar Winter (who used it for "Frankenstein").

[avatar]

Hey Splitty, thank you so much for that last comment. Your comments are always the best comments, but that one in particular has left a warm glow in my heart ❤️

[avatar]

Thanks for the feedback! That made my night :)

[avatar]
@atam94

Hey, thanks for checking out "Japan" and leaving such a nice comment. August has been a busy month and I tried preparing for a live ambient show that I didn't end up doing because I got sick for a week or so, but I'm glad to be back now for the remainder of 50/90. It feels so good to be working on new music again.

[avatar]

Also I love portlandia especially the theme song…have you watched standup for drummers?

[avatar]

ThNks so much mr booms! You’ve been inspiring me to get better with my production and sample work since the first tune of yours I bumped. You are a friend and a teacher. A gentleman and a scholar. You are breakfast for dinner…with hot sauce…and damn you got a way with words your comments are always so cogent and conversational…I’m only good with unrelated words…like mouth montage…

[avatar]

If you’re cool with that I’d love to!

[avatar]
@gm7

Pink Floyd! Even Division Bell album...will give you a great feel for there stuff fun of drums and airy guitar solos etc,. Thx for the many kind works on my songs this 5090. They are always in-depth and thoughtful .

[avatar]
@jeff9

Man, I hardly know where to start with your work. Every single number has me bopping in my seat like a fool. Headphones getting all sweaty. I don't know diddly squat about the family tree of this kind of music and all its sub-genres or how to assess it, but I see I've been missing out on a whole delicious end of the buffet table. Majorly impressed with your ability to generate such ear pleasing electronic witchcraft.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Hi, Splittybooms--just wanted to say thanks for your exceptionally nice comments about Summertime is the Best Time. So glad it took you back to a period of your life that has fond memories. My collaborator @gm7 was a joy to work with on a random collab.

[avatar]
@cts

Well, yeah - can’t forget about them either. I thought you were lookin for “the source”. And you’re in a sample war? Really? I must say that this intrigues me. I’m currently on the sidelines but maybe…just maybe I can get in there, too!

[avatar]

“I love the smell of bass drops in the morning”

[avatar]
@djtjb

We discussed potentially using only splice samples as the terms of war, but we decided it's more fun if we can add our own instrumentation as well. Come Mr. Booms, join the sample wars.

[avatar]

So far I’ve made most everything with splice apart from some drum stuff…I think is sorta all for 1 1 for all, guerilla banditos eating Doritos rules of engagement…the main rule is he/she/they that has the most fun…wins. Vocal samples count the most!

[avatar]

I'm glad you liked my vocaloid adventures. I've just got another free voice for Alter/Ego up and running called Alys ( https://labs.phundrak.com/ALYS/ALYS ) and she is *extremely* French!

[avatar]
@cts

Do you suppose you could allow me to “borrow” 8 bars of that drum and bass line in separate stems? I’m inspired.

[avatar]

No worries! Please don’t stress about it. Of course we can help out. But also don’t worry if it doesn’t happen this 5090 🙂

[avatar]

thank you, thank you for all the kind comments and sincere feedback! Especially for the last 2 songs. It cheered me up and I am 100% more motivated after reading~ p.s. New Horizons rock. I played a little bit of it on a friend's console, and every now and then I have hunches about picking it back up (but haven't). Anyway enjoy your weekend and more songwriting 😊

[avatar]

Oh hell yeah! Send it over georgiecooper77@gmail.com

I’ve got a couple collabs on the bubble but if you’re happy to wait a few days…

😁

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment on the "Rainy Sunday Afternoon". It's EXACTLY the way I felt. No idea what to do with my time, cause it's too early to go to bed and starting new thing is pointless when you tried many and Monday is already knocking on my door.

My guitar makes me sit on windowsill and jam blues though I don't listen to it. It just happens and I often don't know what I played. This never happened with my keyboard.

Yes it's my smartphone cause I cannot mount proper microphones in my room. Balancing on my leg, pointing roughly to fret 12. I still hope I can re-record when I have a microphone and more space. But Im also okay if somebody else does, cause I'm still a rookie.

You're right, lyrics are not a must. But maybe somebody feels inspired?

[avatar]

Just a mental note, Sotp it should be a mega mind track

[avatar]

Thanks for listening to my fifth song and for your kind words :)
Actually, all the vocals are mine. I just autotuned the clean parts a lot to fit with the electronic side ^^
And what a detailed description and imagery 😀 I'm super happy it resonated in some ways with you

[avatar]
@gm7

Thx splittybooms on all your comments on my music and collabs. Your comments are always insightful and straight from the heart. Rock on🎸

[avatar]
@psyt

Thanks for the detailed feedback on Truth. ♥

[avatar]

Hey man, hope you’re doing good! Thanks for your comments, they are so thoughtful, and they are much appreciated!😄

[avatar]

haha no worries! I've only recently started honing down on commenting and listening myself. It's a bit tricky balancing that and making the actual music. I see that you're also rocketing your way to 90🔥

[avatar]

happy to read your comments - the latest one being the one for 'Contemporary Wine' - you're super thorough as always so it makes me think of all kinds of additional things I can do on the track! for a collab - would you be down to try tinker around on a mellow song?

[avatar]

I share your nostalgia for a lost diner. There’s nothing in the world more comforting than a 24-hour greasy spoon to go sit in when you’re down. These days I usually hit it up Taco Bell when I’m feeling blue and man it’s just not the same at all.

[avatar]
@fonte

Just wanted to say thanks for your very thoughtful comments :-)

[avatar]
@lennie

Thank you for your interesting comment on ‘breathe the feeling’. Yes, it could be an introduction to something else. I did really like that one loop of the bells but do wonder how much the listener could take :) Also, I’m interested that you call it ‘electro’. I didn’t know what to tag it. Now I do. Thanks.

[avatar]

Thanks for the comment on "Savannah". Fiddles, yes. What you're hearing that's similar to banjo sound is a Kora. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kora_(instrument)

[avatar]

Yup i have played piano a bit since i was young (only self taught) but my brother was a very good pianist so i never competed and moved on to other things!

Honestly the keys are of little significance! I use 3, a very old Yamaha full 88 key keyboard, a Nektar LX49 middy controller and an Akai Mpc 2 middy controller! Its all in the plug ins! I have hundreds so i use whatever i think fits, i think this was pretty standard piano on the Nektar! If you listen to some songs , i use a psychedelic peddle a fair bit! I must admit plug in selection is often my longest piece of the music !

[avatar]
@cts

Actually, it is a combination of both; drum preset with modifications and real-time overdubs. Testing out some tips 'n tricks in Studio One. Thanks for stopping by, my dude!

[avatar]
@atam94

Thanks for checking out "A Brighter Tomorrow" and leaving such a nice comment. I'm continuing to practice it while writing more music, so I'll definitely have draft versions of new songs in the coming days. Other than that, I'm looking forward to playing live on August 20 for friends and family. It'll be a good time, for sure.

[avatar]
@gm7

Thx Splitty for your kind and thoughtful comments,as always. Talk to you soon.

[avatar]
@jeustan

Hey Mr. splittybooms. Thank you for putting your heart in that comment like I put my weirdo heart in that song. I thought of you when the Google translate voice thing started to hit. You’re amazing and I always groove to your songs, man. Thank you.

[avatar]

Hi Splitty. I really appreciate your taking the time to comment and give your thoughts, especially since a lyric can be hard to critique in isolation.

In terms of the 'deep meaning', you pretty much unearthed it when you started thinking about your own great bridges. It's a song about a lifetime's worth of unfinished works of art - things that start off with so much promise and potential but then quickly run out of purpose and direction. Beautiful parts but a rather incomplete whole. Ironically, I was stuck in the middle of writing that one for a good long while, making it a nice self-demonstrating article but not at all what I wanted to publish this winter!

[avatar]

Hey Splitty….just wanted to thank you for all your generous comments. Reading them give me great joy…as does listening to your music, which I love.

[avatar]

Hell ya I’ll send you the track when I get back to the lab!

[avatar]
@gm7

E.D. Hambone · Soulive,,,freaking cool sax! and guitar!

[avatar]
@atam94

Hey, thanks for listening to "Sunlight Bouncing On The Window"! I'm really glad you enjoyed it, and I agree that a longer version would be nice. At the same time, I want a variety of sounds for an album, which makes it a struggle on when to end a song.

[avatar]
@aniya_ph

Hi! I always enjoy reading your comments. Thank you so much!

[avatar]
@cts

Yup - I'm down, homie. Let's do this!

[avatar]

Thank you so much for your awesome comment on my rap/hip hop number. Means a whole lot coming from you! Anytime you want me to topline a track for you or add in some vocal stabs I’d love to.

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks for being kind about Den Building! I like it and want to improve the lyrics but it will take thought because I'm not sure what my "argument" is exactly. But I think the point is that life isn't very coherent, so why should a song about it be? Nevertheless, I think the second verse about being secretly distracted by den building locations is a bit of a missed opportunity.
(edit: oh, and the piano is Spitfire's Firewood Piano with the "Felt" and "Pad" settings simultaneously)

[avatar]

Yessssss you are here.

[avatar]

Splitty! Thank you so much for that wonderfully detailed insight on my recorder piece. I really, really appreciate it! 😀

[avatar]

Your comments on my track were wonderful, thank you so much for taking the time to share them with me 😂

[avatar]

I treasure your comments. Thank you!

[avatar]
@atitlan

Thanks for commenting on 'Androgyny' - the bass is from Arturia's CZ emulation - beloved of both me and @headfirstonly for bass sounds

[avatar]

Just wanted to stop by and say your comment on “Listen, Please” really moved me, Splitty!! Thank you—I look forward to listening to your musical output this summer!!

[avatar]

You are masterful with your comments. Thank you sir!!! Much appreciated. I look forward to more of your magical music.

[avatar]
@gm7

Yes that was an 'arp" sound on Tuesday After Zoom.....how did your ear pick that out?!...amazing!

[avatar]

Thank you so much for your lovely comment on they're playing. Your comment reminded me that I was also thinking of Frank Spencer from sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em so I've adjusted my liner notes. Thank you again for your support.

[avatar]
@atam94

Hey thanks for checking out my first song!! Yeah, the wedding is just over a year away now but the proposal was perfect. Thanks again for listening and I can’t wait to hear more of your music

[avatar]

Thank you so much for your feedback on "Hear Me Now" I'm glad that you appreciated the Alchemy pads. Going old school is one of my fave things to do musically being an 80's kid myself :)

[avatar]

Gosh! I’m so humbled by your epic compliment on mon-stop party drop. Thank you so much. You say my song lifted your day even for a moment…so did your words to me. Thank you friend 😊

[avatar]

Thank you for the beautiful comment on Little Bird. Meant A LOT. Hope you have a splendid 5090, Mr Booms 😄

[avatar]

I’m so ready to get some gold posted up. Megamind!!!!!

[avatar]
@jeustan

I am ready for your jams, splittybooms. HAPPY 50/90!

[avatar]
@djtjb

Man, I've been waiting on this all year lol. So ready

[avatar]

haha, same! no worries, let's just have fun~ I have some of the tracks that you sent me the last time, should I pick one of them or you can send me something new

[avatar]

Hi Splitty!! Happy summer of songwriting!

[avatar]
@gm7

Welcome....the music master is in the house. I can't wait to start..Megamind will be a fun coollab! (see i got 'cool" in there!)

[avatar]
@cola

Hey, glad to see you around! Looking forward to hearing some more vocal synth goodness from you this summer!

[avatar]

hi friend, fancy seeing you here 😀 how are you, aaand would you like to collab sometime in the first week?

[avatar]
@atam94

Gearing up for my first 50/90 here! How's everything going?

[avatar]
@cts

We. Are. Megamind. It's going to be mind-widening!

[avatar]
@gm7

You are here!!!!!! Yeah!
