First 50/90, and I have done 3 FAWMs

I write on guitar and piano. I am primarily a finger style player and love playing in different tunings. I also love collaborating, both by turning your lyrics into songs, or by creating lyrics and a melody for your instrumental track. One of the very best parts of FAWM for me 😀 The second best part of FAWM is getting to listen to so much wonderful music and seeing such creativity! I love to listen and to comment, and am inspired by all of you.

Thanks for your comments on my 'Find Myself' lyrics. Really nice to receive them and glad that you liked them

[avatar]

Hi Susan,
Just a note to say I have put up a demo for my song: "The Folly" which you kindly read when it was just lyrics only.

https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/11447

[avatar]

I'm going to take you up on that :) Thanks for offering your ears and support throughout this summer 👍 Looking forward to my first FAWM!

[avatar]

Susan, Thank you for the lovely comment on my page. I look forward to more interactions with you on Muse. The pace there is more relaxed. It’s hard for me to do my best work in a hurry. And it is my experience that “the song lasts forever,” so I appreciate having a little more time to get things right. :)

[avatar]

thank you for all you listening and thoughtful, perceptive comments. especially your post 50 90 comments on return to alcatraz. i hope to hear more of your songsin february,

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your comments on three of my songs. I am repaying the favour now.

[avatar]

Thank you 🙏🤗

[avatar]

Susan, thanks for your support in general, and, in particular, for your nice comment on Not My Kind of Guy. Gwyn and Georgie really have great chemistry when it comes to putting songs together, and I love the treatment they gave to this song. I'm glad you like it, too.

[avatar]

Thanks for listen to The road not taken. I am not so satisfied with my English pronunciation at all. Thats why I made the collab with @fuzzy with an extract of Dylan Thomas Under Milkwood. I‘ m planning to do more of such collabs in February.

[avatar]
@andrea

I want to thank you for all your thoughtful and lovely comments this 50/90. You always say something that makes me feel good. Sorry we weren't able to collab this time around, but maybe we can connect in FAWM. I still have several lyrics unspoken for if by chance one interests you. It's almost closing time, but there is still a bit of time for a placeholder. No worries if you are not interested. Hopefully we will get a chance sometime :)

[avatar]

Will send tomorrow, will amend lyric order slightly also. Thanks, it will be great 👍

[avatar]

So glad you liked my game of chess song. I despise those who think they can play games with real people's lives. And I am not keen on those who follow them blindly.

[avatar]

Thanks so much for the kind comments on my final song. I was wondering if you might like to try singing it? Go for another different version?

[avatar]

So stoked to see you crush the 50 song goal and beyond! I'm looking forward to FAWM and will hope to see you here! Your songs have been very inspirational lyrically and musically, and your kind and consistent feedback has been so helpful for me as someone newer to solo songwriting :)

[avatar]

It's beautiful. Thank you so much for tackling "How Long." You nailed it.

[avatar]

And congrats on hitting 50!

[avatar]

There was some backward stuff happening; the original track was just weird in timing and chords and I thought I could make it more weird yet so I did the reverse and distortion stuff.

[avatar]

I hear you about the volume issues, re: yours and Liz's "Walking Downstream," Susan, but don't fret, as I had read--I think in the FAQs--that FAWMers should, for the most part, concentrate commenting on the written lyric, since this 2022 50/90 is/was a lyric-writing challenge.

Regardless, I found myself commenting quite a bit on your music/vocal contributions here, too. How could I not, though, when I found them prodding me to do so, because they were that moving and good? Yes, you can always fix/adjust the volume in "WD," but all is there, in lyric, for you to do so, and that's what matters.

Wonderful meeting up with you, too, during this 50/90. Our collab worked well, and your standout piano-vocal rendition of my "Down at the Riverbed" lyric is gold and memorable. Such a top-notched job you did on it. So glad the piece went with keys, rather than stings.

You're quite the lyricists, too, and one better than me for you compose music as well. Here's to those musical talents of yours that you have given so freely to others to combo-create during this 50/90. How thankful am I to have been a part of your musically-creative world during this time.

Thanks for having checked out my lyric early on and for bringing it to life so magically, much appreciated your unwavering support throughout, and your meaningful and helpful comments.

Continued lyric-writing, song-composing fun/success to you, Susan. I wouldn't be surprised if one day soon I heard your music playing on the radio.

[avatar]
@donna

Thank you for your very lovely comment on 'I Want to Go Back'.

[avatar]

That is incredible! I’m amazed how your made that come alive with such a perfect lyric and melody! Thank you!!!

[avatar]

I appreciate you checking out my lyrics and I love our Collabs and hope we can do more down the road!

[avatar]

Thanks! We are just blown away with all our talents! 😊

[avatar]
@tjeff

Thanks for your comments this 50/90 - I appreciate the listens! I've enjoyed your music a lot and would be interested in trying to collab at some point. Let me know if that sounds interesting.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your kind words on "Fear of missing out". I'm happy you enjoyed my lyrics. FOMO is the real thing in this generation. Sad but true...

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks so much for such a comprehensively nice comment on Sodium Pentothal - that was lovely to get up to (albeit having had way too little sleep!). Listening back now the sound of mouth noises is quite deafening; I think I should probably have had at least a glass of water, but perhaps it evokes the friendly sound of a nearby popcorn popper....

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks for listening to Drowning Rabbits and Long, Long Time - so kind to give such a nice and thoughtful response to both.

[avatar]

Thank you for your comments. I enjoyed listening to your music this morning.
Don't feel obligated, but if you're interested, I have a lyric from toward the beginning of the challenge that is, in some ways, a contrast to your song "I hope you love where you land" that could use some mucifiying. I would love to hear how you would tackle it. Again, don't feel obligated and with only one week left it's bordering on rude to ask but it's there if you want to check it out:
https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/1637

[avatar]

I'm really sorry I haven't listened to much of your stuff yet this year. I'll try to do better.

[avatar]
@gm7

Thx for all you kind words.

[avatar]

Thank you for listening and feedback

[avatar]
@miga

thanks so much for the encouraging comments on 'words.' And I'm so impressed that you wrote 43 songs so far! Hope you make it all the way to 50, but even if you don't, it's impressive output!

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your comments!

[avatar]

Thanks for your great comments on my letting go lyric! I appreciate it

[avatar]

Feel free to put I love a storm to music. i’m fine with lyrics change. carrollgkiphen@live.com

[avatar]

Thanks for your comments on my Roots lyrics. Glad that you enjoyed and got them. I moved schools a few times as a kid which I think influenced the theme

[avatar]
@gm7

Thx you so much, Deyla did a wonderful job. I am behind in my listening..but in Oct I plan to listen to more of your music..38 so far .awesome

[avatar]

Thanks so much for your great comments on my lyric!

[avatar]
@jeff9

You know, Kathy, since you like playing fingerstyle and in open tunings, maybe you'd enjoy trying a lap steel guitar sometime. They aren't terribly expensive and it might open up a whole new universe for someone with your existing capabilities.

[avatar]
@jeff9

So kind of you, Susan, to post all those really encouraging comments about "Sometimes a Woman". Thank you very much! Surprisingly for me, it doesn't seem to be getting as many comments as most of my other stuff on 50/90 this year. As simple as it is, I'm starting to feel like it's one of my best songs ever, so I'm really glad it resonated with you. BTW, that's an electric lap steel guitar (as opposed to a pedal steel or a dobro/resonator) doing that slide stuff.

[avatar]
@marthie

thank you for your feedback

[avatar]

Thanks for your great comments on my Collab!

[avatar]
@mahtowin

Thank you so much for your wonderful and kind words!

[avatar]
@jeff9

Very kind of you, Susan, to take a listen to I Love Your Eyes and make such generous comments. You've really made someone's day. Thank you.

[avatar]
@brisk

Thanks for positive words on Little 1 - I've been a bit remiss and haven't really been returning listens as things have got a bit hectic - will endeavour to listen to at least one of yours tomorrow...

[avatar]
@mikeb

Thanks so much for the comment on 'On To Hollywood'!

[avatar]
@igg1

Thanks so much for your gracious comments on Looking For A Way Back Home.....Looking into the darkness around me I write what I see....

[avatar]

Hi Susan. Thank you for the lovely comment on The Answer! Titles are a bugger. Although from the songs of yours I listened to earlier in the summer, I didn't notice any lyrical bagginess. Visiting your page, I do realise I have quite a lot of catching up to do 😂 !!

[avatar]

Thanks for your nice comment! Means so much coming from you!

[avatar]

You can have this one too!

[avatar]

It's available and I'd love to do a Collab! Thanks

[avatar]

Susan, Thanks for your comments on I Call Myself a Gardener. I agree with you that @panch really made this song happen. Like you, I like the way he added to the track with each verse, and his Chorus melody is a real earworm for me. Glad you enjoyed it, too.

[avatar]
@atam94

Also I just saw your comment on "The Time We Have" - thank you again, really. I got emotional making the song. It happens sometimes..

[avatar]
@atam94

Thanks so much for listening to the preview for my upcoming album. It means a lot to me, and I agree, it is going to be a great collection of songs featuring important moments from my life.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you! Who knows maybe somebody connects to the lyrics and writes a great song? I just played around with the metric.

[avatar]

Thank you for your moving comment on Missing. To answer your question, I don't remember it unless I listen to it many times. I create music by images in my head. Just thinking of the idea of missing meant for me to go with the dialog idea between the hands, what you called "chasing". I suppose you can call it semi-improvisations as I go with what comes although I go with the structure too and I have the music in my head before I record it. So it's a mixture of created/improvised/cried out music. Thank you for tunning in so beautifully.

[avatar]
@jamkar

:-O

[avatar]
@wolfkier

:)

[avatar]
@jamkar

Thank you!

[avatar]
@andrea

Thank you for your wonderful and thoughtful comments on You'll Never Stop Shining for Me. I couldn't be happier with how this collab with Nadia and Hannah turned out. I am so happy you like it!

[avatar]

Hi, Susan! It's nice to hear your enthusiasm for Bonnie & Clyde, and the bluesy-banjo treatment that @tuneslayer gave it. Thank you! It was a very easy collab! :)

[avatar]

Not often in life--and especially online--do special moments really ever present themselves. When they do, however, and flourish into something like a meeting of beautiful creativity (on a creativity site of sorts, no less), how golden! Your collaboration with me on my "Down at the Riverbed," Susan, I regard as one of those special, memorable moments.

Lucky me to have had you read that lyric and see something in it that you felt was calling you. I'm so glad that we were able to connect via it and collab so easily as composer-singer and lyricist, because what you have produced in both music and vocals here is truly beautiful--as it is amazing to me! Such sweet, heartfelt loveliness you put into this piece's creation from the start and topped that with such a meaningful performance. Wow.

One of my early lyric posts to this new lyric-writing world for me was "Down at the Riverbed." Humbled and thankful as I was after reading your initial comment that day, asking to put it to music, I really didn't know what to expect. You have far exceeded any of my expectations with how you brought this all to musical life. I love it as a piano piece, am amazed at how well your melodious voice carries it so peacefully, and I can't say enough about your harmonies that further enhance the full visual you've created here. So much thanks I send your way for doing it all with such passion and devotion.

It was a pleasure for me, too, to have collaborated with you on this lyric, Susan. Perhaps we will do so again on another in the future.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your comment! This means a lot to me, cause you rock the fingerstyle!

[avatar]

Thanks for your kind words and feedback, as always 👍

[avatar]
@atam94

Thanks so much for listening to "When We're Old" - I'm glad you liked the chorus part a lot, too. I want to catch up on some songs here when it's my weekend

[avatar]
@atam94

Sorry to reply two weeks late, I've been away for a while, but I really do appreciate the kind words on my song :)

[avatar]
@wolfkier

Thank you, my friend. Like your songwriting you have a gift for describing your experience in your song comments. Much appreciated. Hearing you compliment my "vocal stylings", though, always seems weird, since you clearly know what you're doing in that regard. LOL. Glad you enjoyed another one! :)

[avatar]

Susan, thank you for your thoughtful comments on Inconvenient Lovers!

[avatar]
@oswlek

Thank you, Susan. I really appreciate your generous and thoughtful comment on "Tea", as well as all your support. You are much too kind.

[avatar]
@wolfkier

:)

[avatar]

Hi, Susan, thanks for your reflections on You Take Me There. Glad you liked the treatment Wacha gave my lyrics. I was very flattered to have her pick this one up.

[avatar]
@wolfkier

Thank you. You are very perceptive.
Hugs.

[avatar]
@kristi

Hi Susan! Thanks for your nice comments on my lyric, Go Deep. No one is working on it and I'd be happy to have you add music! Thanks!

[avatar]

I would LOVE that! Thanks!!!

[avatar]
@andrea

Hi sheslin, due to a small misunderstanding with Gwyn, he has made 'When I had it All' a song. I thought he and I were going to collaborate on different lyrics. Perhaps I wasn't very clear? He made a really nice song, so I am not going to say anything to him. I hope we get the chance to work together at some point. Sorry about this, Andrea

[avatar]

Was great to read your comment left on "Can You Tell Me?" Much thanks, Susan! Touched that you were able to get something out of my lyrics. Fab to know that another Fawmer has a liking for musicals and reading their verse. I know of the "Waitress" story (and, yes, the tragedy) but oh, the music? What can you not say about the lyrics and song? I never saw the production. Your mention of it, though, has me looking forward to getting around to watching it.

"Tick Tick...Boom!" was pure awesomeness, yes. Powerful story, lyrics, and songs to match. Another unfortunate tragedy surrounding this one, too, but a wonderful, inspiring, uplifting story nonetheless, in so many ways. Had seen it a time ago, and recalling all its music, I just may re-watch it now!

[avatar]
@andrea

Hi Susan. I hope you are having a nice weekend. I would love to collaborate on When I Had it All. I am happy to tweak anything that doesn't fit quite right. Thanks 😀

[avatar]

Bummer about you losing power, Susan. So unfortunate that life happens as it does like that at times. Good to hear that all's ok, though. No prob about you putting music and song to the lyrics. Whenever you get to it is the right time.

[avatar]

Thanks, Susan, for your kind comment on Grazing Grace!

[avatar]
@aneil

Thx for you comment on truth I better get to the music now!

[avatar]

Hi Susan, I am so glad that you liked my lyric “Someone needs to be there” - I inadvertently forgot to update that lyric to point to a demo that Gwyn made https://fiftyninety.fawm.org/songs/779
So, yes, it was already set to music. Sorry! I’m okay with more than one person putting lyrics to music if you wanted to but would want to make sure Gwyn would be okay with that as well.

[avatar]

re blow it off the fork..opening chords lifted from phil ochs' union song, thats what i want to hear

[avatar]
@andrea

Hi Susan. Thanks for your thoughtful and positive comments on Niagara's Fall. The different pieces came together nicely. Thank you also for your interest to collaborate on Another Side to Me. I am a bit of a metalhead and have my heart set on some kind of metal or possibly a power ballad for these lyrics. I would love to collaborate with you on something else. I am working on new lyrics all the time. Let me know if you would like to discuss a different collaboration. Thanks, Andrea 😀

[avatar]
@aneil

Hi nice to meet you thx for your very encouraging comments on miracle man. Now to discover your music

[avatar]

Cool that this is your first 50/90, too, Susan. Thx for the welcome. Hadn't known about FAWM's this coming Feb '23, so I appreciate you giving me that info. And, that'll be your 4th? Wow! Sounds like it's been a positive, since you're joining up again in Feb next year.

[avatar]
@mikeb

Thanks for the comment on 'Lonely City'!

@atam94

Thank you for the kind words on “Things Change”. It means a lot to me!

Thanks for your comments on No Stone Above My Grave!

[avatar]

Thanks for your comment about On My Own. I like your chilled playing and positive lyrics :)

[avatar]
@mikeb

Thanks for the comment on my collab with Simon!

[avatar]

Much thanks for stopping by and commenting so wonderfully on "Down at the Riverbed," Susan. So glad to hear that my lyrics spoke to you; humbled and honored that you would like to set this one to music. I look forward to you doing so.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks a lot for your comment on the random collaboration! I'm so happy to read your words cause I never considered myself to be a vocalist. I just use it as tool for songwriting... No idea how this song will develop further. I hope it will...

[avatar]

thanks for your kind words on "Look Sharp", I'm so pleased with what Rich and David created with my lyrics.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you that's super kind 😍

[avatar]
@nadine

I guess it's a thing of coordination. Just wondering why so many are able to! I started playing one year ago, so I don't want to confuse myself with alternate tunings. Sometimes I drop D because it's much easier for powerchords.

[avatar]

Thank you for your kind comments.

[avatar]
@nadine

Interesting. I'm still a beginner, trying different things with no clear vision yet. I find it super hard to sing while playing, even if it's just one strum per bar, I can either focus on singing or playing - Same with piano. I lift my hat for everybody who is able to sing complex melodies over complex playing. This must take decades to learn!

[avatar]
@nadine

Thank you, Susan. I am so happy to read your comment! I was just ranting, because I often feel like people cannot distinguish a composer from and recording artist. I often get requests for singing, which is super awkward, cause I never sang on the final songs and have no intentions to do so. You REALLY don't wanna hear me without my producer voodoo! The lyrics just happened in an instant. It's just how I feel today...

[avatar]
@atam94

Thanks for the kind words on "A Brighter Tomorrow"! Ambient/spacey guitar seems to be my specialty, I'm glad you enjoyed listening.

[avatar]

Hi. Thanks for the comment on the lyrics. Yeah, I knew that link was jacked up almost as soon as I posed it. Was trying to fix it before anyone clicked it, but you beat me to it. :) Oh well. It's fixed now.

[avatar]
@nadine

Thanks for your kind words and listening!

[avatar]

Thank you for your kind Words on My Lyrics

[avatar]

PS I think grammatically it should be my ship sank But I liked the sound sunk vs sank, they are often used interchangeably, and people often say my heart sunk… so I went with sunk… but whatever feels right for you…

[avatar]

I would love that! Please sail away with your music!!

[avatar]
@jorh

Thanks Susan glad you enjoyed! Hope you’re well :) Looking forward to checking your songs out this weekend

[avatar]

Hi Susan
Thanks for your very positive comments on my "So Sad" (Modern Teenage Angst) song.

[avatar]

Hi, Susan, Thanks for coming back and listening to the alternative version of I Hate Love. I like your description: "a passionate angry song."

[avatar]
@jeff9

Very kind of you, Susan, to check out the alternative approach to Patty's "I Hate Love". Thanks for your nice words.

[avatar]

Thanks for checking out my song "Speak!" Looking forward to hearing more of your tunes, fellow finger style player.

[avatar]
@jeff9

Thanks from me, too, Susan. Your comments are most appreciated.

Thanks so much for the comment on my first 50/90 submission! I appreciate the time and words - especially about my lead guitar playing!
